Linebackers are still mostly ass. I’d like to see the young guys. Montgomery is the size of a toddler
He’s short as hell but stout and strong with some explosion. He was really good last week and had a couple nice stops yesterday. He’s not going sideline to sideline but between the tackles against the run he looks solid.

Did Harrell play more than the one play he had a tackle?

Penn State was effective making him him run, but he is a solid tackler and has good instincts

Montgomery > Harrell, but hopefully not firmly entrenched with union card

Xavier pummeled that QB on the INT return too. That was awesome.

That ex-Dowling Smolik kid must suck. Looks like he got hurt in his limited time yesterday too.

He was in that whole series. Defense was on the field a lot. Was likely just to give someone in the back seven a break.
Montgomery had an equipment issue and came out for a few plays. Was noticeable how much better Montgomery had been playing than Harrell when that happened.

This is the worst tackling team I can remember in my lifetime, and I’m really curious if it’s because it’s also the first team that doesn’t full tackle at all in practice.

It's like they don't use their arms at all.

I wonder if there has ever been another TV announcing crew for a CFB game where the PBP announcer was a former starting QB for one of the teams and the color guy was a former starting QB for the other team. This may have been a first.

Have we all agreed that X deserves flowers for his recent play, likely thanks to the tough love motivational tactics of @Fair and Balanced?
In the 4th quarter he came over and was bleeding quite a bit by his ear - kept playing. They said something on the radio show about him needing stiches after last game because of hitting so hard.

When I was watching it live I noticed the big scab on his right ear when he was sitting on the bench. Looked pretty fucking gross.

He was invisible the first month of the season. He's been pretty good the last two games.

he was 2nd on the team in tackles versus ISU-3rd versus Indiana.
his tackle totals for the FS position at Iowa seem higher than normal, probably because of the sub par LB play this year. He is tied for the team lead in solo tackles.

Sharer and the other 2 have a penchant for running into blocks.

Watching the 60 minute replay, a couple things stand out, but the biggest ones are that Koen Entringer might have had the two plays of the game on 3rd down. The first on a perfectly timed blitz and sack on the late drive where Penn State had to kick a FG. The second on 2nd down on the last drive where the RB could have got a first down but he stopped him 4 yards short.

X also had a PERFECTLY timed blitz on the last play that disrupted the Penn State enough the QB immediately had to run for his life. If you watch the replay, if they don't get that pressure Penn State had a great play drawn up with the guy in motion would have easily had a first down.

Phil Parker coached Iowa has always been pretty shitty at timing blitzes, but in this case these two were perfect.

Koen is a legit stud. Top 2-3 round pick if he returns

Of this year’s regular defensive contributors, I think Graves, Llewelyn, Entringer, X, and Hall all probably make NFL rosters. Allen may too.

Lutmer is going to be one of the stars of the show next year. Not sure where exactly he’d end up but I could see a Reed Blankenship like safety.
