Parker is a good candidate. Why pass that up and lose him for your 4th or 5th choice from the outside?

People are seriously underestimating how big of a this change is. This is a total revamp.
Why pass up Parker? Uh, because he was acting DC last year when Norm was out and I didn't see any defensive improvment. If you're going to change coordinators, doesn't it make sense to expect improvement?

And it's more of a shuffle, than a revamp.

Now, bring on the, "fuck you noob".
JFC.

1). The defense ranked 7th in the nation in that year. 7th in the fucking nation.

2). "If you're going to change coordinators, doesn't it make sense to expect improvement"? We didn't fire Norm, dumbass. We don't need improvement from what we've had. Our defenses have been awesome.

3). He wasn't even the only guy in charge. It was a "collaboration" between he, Wilson and Kaczenski you buffoon. It's not like he got to run his defense or install new shit.

So to sum it up, you're pissed about the choice because the defense didn't improve from their elite status, while they were coaching shorthanded and had a bunch of guys trying to come together with the plan on short notice in the middle of the year.

Now you can GFY
Judging from this response, it sure as hell doesn't appear to be much of a collaboration, fucktard.

Brian Bennett: You ran the defense previously when Norm Parker had to take time off. How did that prepare you for this job?

Phil Parker: It made me do a lot of the checks and balances, looking over the whole defense. And it kind of helped me to kind of prepare myself for the situation I'm in now.

it seems to me that i am one of the like 6 people that actually likes our style on both sides.

- we dont recruit the depth of athletes needed to fly all over the field and be ultra aggressive

-we blitzed like 20% of the time last year yet people think it never happens

- we keep people in front of us and force their guys to make plays to beat us

- we try to control the clock on offense and wear down the other team

- we take shots downfield after setting up play action

improvements i would like to see:

-better execution and moving the chains to keep the D off the field

-either recruit more athletic LB's or use more nickel and dime vs certain offenses and situations

-drop the hammer and put teams away

-better special teams across the board like 02-04

i guess i just dont see any huge flaws or reasons for an mass overhaul. i believe that our program has an identity that gives us a bump in recruiting and fan loyalty.
this guy is smart

That 2012 team lost 9-6 to Iowa State, lost to Central Michigan, and lost the final 6 games of the year.

I bet this place was a hoot that year

Also, in fairness, I think this is before we knew Greg Davis was hired.

I remember watching games that year and eventually just laughing at the ways Iowa would lose. Central Michigan, Indiana, and Purdue were all basically giveaways. Then Denard made them (especially Tanner Miller) look absolutely silly.

Doug is correct, if Iowa wanted to fire Ferentz they could afford it.

That being said, KF will retire in five years. He has done some great things at Iowa, but I don't share the optimism for the next five years. Sometimes people lose the fire, shit happens.

Ferentz cycle. Every 5 or 6 years he “regresses” and his team is consumed by the flames of his own hubris in true boomer fashion. Then he pulls his head out of his ass. That was 2022 with Peaches then he hit the portal going into 2023. Results are yet to be really seen but I remain optimistic.

Yeah GDGD was hired 2/27/12. There was muted excitement but then this was posted:

I warned everyone immediately as my Texas brethren that I was watching their National Championship game with were screaming about how much he sucked. I figured if you're the #2 team in the country scoring 40+ per game and you despise your OC, he must be the worst ever.

Campbell as OC was the dumbest thing ever. He's been a position coach his entire career and then at his last couple stops added passing game coordinator to his resume - Delaware and Bowling Green.

You may want to hold off a bit on the “I told you so” stuff for a bit, particularly in this thread.

how much worse could have it been?
I mean, it probably would have been a lot worse. Greg was a tardo but we did have that 12-0 season with #16 slinging the pigskin.

It is ok to occasionally admit stupid fuckery, stang’

Fuck me in the goat ass. Jaleel went from Hermann and Woods to PParker and Reece. That's pretty effing funny.
The horrors of being coached by PParker & Reece Morgan.

I agree but only because losing Campbell would rob our staff of any remaining swag whatsoever. I have no idea which would be a "better" coordinator.
Campbell had 'swag' why again?
