Yes he was at fault. The sole argument his family made was that snowplow driver was exceeding the speed limit, by going something like 57 in a 50 mph zone. They lost.

There was even a petition going around Iowa City at the time urging the Streets to drop the suit.

At the risk of being labeled insensitive, I think it's time to let this go. Keep his jersey hanging in the rafters, and keep giving the Chris Street award to a player at season's end. Those are fine, lasting tributes. There isn't much sense in dredging up the story of his untimely demise every year in perpetuity, though. He was a college kid who died in a car accident. It was sad, but it happens. 25 years of where were you when you heard the news and oh, what might have been is more than long enough. I don't see how it benefits anyone to have a public recounting of the grim details of his death every January, year after year. If anything, the opposite is probably true.

Yep, all Iowa natives, they each wore it for one year. Then Klay Edwards wore it for his 4 years. Dropped off after that (although a couple of walk ons might have continued it for a few more years) Between players no longer having personally known Street like Wheat/Hoiberg/Meyer/Edwards and Eustachy and Morgan not really recruiting Iowa natives the tradition faded away.

If I were to describe Iowa basketball to someone who has never heard about it before, I'm not sure I could talk about it without mentioning these 3 things: the combination of the late 80s teams, Chris Street, and somehow Jess Settles.

I'm with L. Wade. Street is sort of the embodiment of Iowa basketball. He's what we are all about and guys like him are why teams (particularly Illinois) always hate us. I'm ok with honoring him every time the team steps out on the floor, and I'm ok with us having a no talent, works his ass off fuckface like him on our team every year.
