This has actually been weird. I generally hate coaches like Fran, that lose control like that. But I've found the success this year really has turned me on him. This bullshit on him this season is just that, bullshit. He should be celebrated by 100% of the fanbase right now. It makes me think Dolph can kinda fuck off. He's the one that fucked up here, multiple times.

Probably not, but Alford found a nice mid-major landing spot, and would assume Fran could do the same- particularly with a top 100 kid on the way.

Are you kidding?? A 10-seed would be a GD gift. I'll take them being seeded anywhere but in an 8-9 game.

Hell, if it meant - potentially - facing a 3 in the second round, I'd be ok with the Hawks being an 11-seed [but not in the fucking play-in round].

For most of the first half Rutgers (f'in Rutgers) would camp on the wings and drain 3 after 3.

In the last 10 years, Basabe, Olaseni, Uthoff, and Baer have been the only players for Iowa to average more than 1 block a game. It would be nice to have some better, more consistent inside presence on defense for sure. The olé! defense is getting old.

This is why I don't get the LOL crowd. That's a quarter of the season against mostly bad offensive teams.

It's still a very good season overall but with the defensive issues along with Weiskamp and Garza playing their worst basketball I don't have any expectations for the rest of the year.

IMO Fran overachieved this year. This roster shouldn't be a tournament team. I'm still excited about the future though. I can't wait to see what Toussaint provides next year along with the defense Nunge can provide in comparison to Garza/Cook.

Fran's offensive system is great.... until the season hits early-to-mid February.

That's when the officiating inevitably reverts to "constant aggressive illegal defense is name of the game/can't call everything" mode. Iowa's offensive movement and freedom is severely stalled with all the hand-checking/grabbing/holding/banging that is allowed once the grind of the conference season truly kicks in. The first run around a screen without reaching out to touch/grab the offensive ballhandler will be the first I've seen this season. I found it pretty telling in the first half when JBo got so frustrated by all the crap that he literally used his arm/elbow to get space - right in front of the refs - twice in the span of 3 seconds, yet nothing was called against him (or the D).

Teams like Rutgers, MSU & Illinois would find everyone but the coaches, training staff and waterboys fouled out before halftime if the games were officiated like they were truly supposed to be.

The game was a disaster. Basically had no one play well with a couple awful performances. No energy early, offense didn't respond to their physicality, gave them open looks and then they couldn't miss.

It's also the first non Quad 1 loss of the year and the first really bad week of the season. Could be the start of a dreadful finish or they could rebound and make up for it with a good week. Neither would be shocking but I think this team dolls has good basketball left in them .

The offense is the problem. Since the Michigan game the offense has completely gone in the tank and you see the slightly inflated defensive numbers, but they aren't that different than what has been going on all season.

The huge change is they have gone from scoring in the 80's to struggling to hit 70 points. They also have been turning the ball over. For a team that already isn't good defensively, it gets even worse when suddenly shots aren't falling and they can't set what defense they do actually have. Teams are getting run out after run out off of long missed shots and turnovers.

I do think there is something to the nature of the teams they have played in that stretch. Northwestern, Rutgers, Maryland, and Ohio State all rape like a mother fucker off the ball. Refs aren't calling anything close to what they do at the beginning of the year and they hit a bad stretch and this happens.

Someone pointed out the sequence in the first half where bohannon is just getting grabbed and bumped and held and he gets so fed up with it he starts doing the exact same thing back and shoving over and over blatantly with his off arm and the ref stands there and stares at it.

Not sure why the Big Ten lets this happen every fucking year, but here we are.
