After another horrible year I say fire Lick and hire Armstrong. The longer this slide continues the harder it is going to be to turn it around. You can win at Iowa. Lick is not the man for this job.

BJ would be a better recruiter, by default.

Shouldn't we see how the season goes before declaring it was horrible? I'm just sayin'...

I'm using last season as a basis for this season.

Big Ten better. Iowa worse.

We'll see what happens after this season.

But BJ Armstrong? I'd rather find a proven coach than grasp at a star Big Ten PG turned coach. If you catch my drift.

Talk about death squads ... some of these guys would pull the plug the minute a patient's temperature broke 100.

I'm sorry but what is there to be positive about right now?
We have between the 6th-8th best recruiting class coming in 2010???

As for this season, I have no idea, unless May, Cougill, and Payne are significantly better than the experts believe, there is absolutely no reason to think we will be more than a bottom feeder in the Big Ten.

How about a core group that's going to be around for 3 - 4 more seasons (Gatens, Fuller, Tucker, Payne, May, Cougill) + a good 2010 recruiting class?

Let's see how this develops.

There's a lot to like about Gatens, Fuller, and Tucker as a core.

I think Cole, if he stays healthy, will surprise some people too.

the problem still is that other big ten schools have better cores, and better recruiting classes coming in.

Better cores assuming equal growth and effort. Iowa has always overachieved to be successful (at least during the Tom Davis years). That isn't going to change anytime soon.

TD had several McD's All-Americans. I'm thinking they probably underachieved.

Good coaching helped many of those Iowa teams become good. He was able to coach some mediocre talent into a very good team.

I have yet to see that from Lick.

I have seen him take mediocre talent and turn it into a mediocre team.

Yeah, that would be great. Roy could advise the players on ways to negotiate the best pricing for their narcotics.

Roy Marble was every person's favorite Hawkeye at one point.

Almost by necessity, I think the next coach has to be an unproven high-risk, high-reward guy.

The program is too moribund and devastated to attract an unsullied proven guy with real name recognition. And a guy without flash who's had success at the mid-major level is going to struggle here. Alford really wrecked this program, and if the the probable outcome for the coming season materializes, this program is going to be in an even lower place when the next guy comes in.

I have a feeling a spark will just set it all on fire and burn what is left to the ground. We will then be forced to turn to a former Indiana star to rebuild it all. I say we go with Kyle Taber.

Well, we're in for at least 2 more very mediocre years (bottom of Big10). I'm somewhat happy with Lick's recovery from losing Kelly especially, but still very much a skeptic. My buddy is a former bb coach, and still teaches kids for a fee, and he's high on Lick. But I don't think his own experience spills over to evaluation other programs. Because get this, he's a fan of Notre Dame football. WTF? Anyway, he bet me $5 that Lick would win the Big10 within the next 2 seasons. No shit. He c-r-a-z-y.

Former coaches often have delusional views about what other coaches can accomplish. For whatever reason it is too difficult for them to say that another guy is going to fail just like they did.

Lick has yet to prove he can stop the mass defections that occurred under Alford's watch.

I think we just need to give him time and a big fat raise with a contract extension. Oh wait... Bowlsby is gone.
