When was the last time Iowa coaches suggested using 2 QBs during Ferentz era? This seems like a full blown QB controversy to me based on history. Even when it was known Jake C was going to be given two games or he was done, Ferentz never suggested splitting plays or packages.

This is stupid. Ferentz has said without question that Rudock is the starter. They aren't completely dumb and realize that he went down multiple times last season, so with a good backup QB like Beathard that performed well, it is smart to use him in games this year when it makes sense.

Ferentz isn't suggesting splitting plays or packages, he simply said that Beathard can be a weapon and they will look at using him as such if the opportunity comes up.

This is the first time Ferentz has mentioned the second string QB playing a significant role. I think everybody sees Ruddocks limitations and the door is open for Bethard. It would be different if he hadn't played significant time last year but he looks like the better QB from a passing and running standpoint. I think Ruddocks got knee issues and it's only a matter of time before Bethard takes over. I think this is a bigger deal than people are willing to admit. Defense takes a step back this year so the offense has to take a step forward. How much better can Ruddock get?

The fact that Ferentz even mentions it is a big deal. I have never heard this much talk from Iowa about-a second string QB. Something is going on. Two tears ago they were big on bringing in QB recruits to push Ruddock. He's a flawed QB. Serviceable but flawed.

Any time a QB misses time in roughly 1/4th of the games, then it is something that you need to be concerned about. It isn't so much a knock against him, but it will happen whenever a QB is running and getting hit.

There was a play last year somewhere around the Northwestern, Wisconsin period where Jake got his bell rung pretty good (he was questioned about it by a reporter afterward and joked it off) after that he became imo shy of contact. Shortly after the bell ringing hit I remember a close game (like I said either NW or WI) 3rd and goal where Jake had to scramble and instead of putting his shoulder down and going for the TD he ran out at the 1.5 yard line. Some may argue that was the right thing to do but not I. It was a very telling play.
