Wisconsin, Nebrantska, Minnesota and Northwestern all lost conference games.

The other positive thing is that Wisconsin's offense looked far worse than Iowa's and their QB is garbage. Minnesota looked good, but they lost their difference maker for the year. Northwestern is a 3 or 4 win team. Illinois isn't good and doesn't look like Purdue is either.

Iowa has a real shot this year in the West.

I thought petras was pretty good. His throws 1st half were great. Several drops on throws that were perfect. We also throw a lot of short stuff to Goodson and the TE’s so it’s not like we take a lot of downfield shots.

With that said, LOL at everyone who totally swore that INSIDERS!! told them Petras was going to be good this year. Holy shit he fucking sucks and most of his teammates hate him. I said in chat, I've never seen an Iowa player roll their eyes or give bad body language to their QB since maybe Christensen.

They have done it numerous times with Petras. Last year ISM, Smith, Tracy, Goodson and LaPorta all were visibly disgusted with him. Today I thought Tracy might fucking kill him and was throwing up his hands and shaking his head at him twice.

He's a fucking pants shitter. Until he proves otherwise, he will limit what Iowa can do this year.

Pretty much this, both lines looked better than I thought they would against a B10 opponent in the first game of the season, but seeing Tracy's reaction to Petras' missed TD pretty much said it all. The team knows Kirk was bullshitting with all the "night and day better" talk.

It's ashame too, cuz if the lines on both sides come together, this team has the defense and running game to be one of the better teams Kirk has had, he just needs a respectable passing game that can keep a defense honest. I'm not sure they can get there with Petras as the guy.

Petras was fine. Did exactly what was asked of him, which was exactly fuck-all after the first pick six. Didn't make bonehead throws. Didn't completely shit himself in the pocket the way he did against a less talented Purdue team last year.

He'll need to have a better showing against better teams, but that version of Petras will win you games with this DL and this back seven. (Good God, that back seven. It's early, but that's a damn good collection of talent back there.)

I'm torn on Petras. He is a pants shitter, and always will be. But he was throwing ropes early on. He's just going to be inconsistent all year, I'm afraid. I feel like Brian is going to have to be more adaptive and just ride him when he's looking good, and start pounding it on the ground as soon as he starts to break up. But when he looks good, they've also got to take some shots deep to loosen things up or it's gonna be a long year.
