Can we talk about the travel on Jordan when the guy literally kicked the ankle of his pivot foot?

Garza has a pretty good feel for the game on both ends of the court. I don't think the rap on him as not being particularly athletic is fair. Athleticism is much more than just muscle density, leaping ability and quickness. It also involves stamina, agility and coordination, and he has all of those qualities. He's stronger than he looks, he plays smart, he's a leader and he hustles his ass off. He's a helluva player as a true freshman. If he sticks around for three or four years, he's going to be a real force in the Big Ten.

Ok, new day new opponent.
Mostly zone today after mostly man yesterday my guess. Contain Wagner again and contest 3s.
Hope for big games from our stars, dominate inside, and survive and advance.
It'd be great to have Tyler Cook be a Hawkeye for one more day.

He's been amazing offensively and pretty good on the boards but saying he has a good feel for the defensive end of the court at this point is pretty fucking retarded. He has given up a ton of layups by either over denying in the post or just not knowing where to be on help. Those are fixable but he has definitely contributed to the shitty defense.

Just a reminder ... he is only a true freshman. We have a highly skilled center who gives 110%. It's been a long time since we could say that.

Sure I love the kid and that's why I said he has been amazing offensively and the defensive issues are fixable. Slidewilly's first sentence is still fucking retarded and that's what I hope you take away from my post.

Playing a lot of zone today is just asking to get torched from 3. Our man defense is obviously bad too, but you have to start with it IMO. Then maybe adjust if they’re just blowing by guys. Hopefully Garza can get Wagner in foul trouble.

Not really fair. Adam Woodbury was the bizarro Garza. He gave a ton of effort and busted his ass on defense but was clueless on offense.

Not Saul specifically, but it is so hard to convince I'd say 80% of Iowa fans how much better Iowa was defensively because of Adam Woodbury.

This is all spot on. He’s an 18-year-old still adjusting to his huge body, so it’s fine if he looks like a baby giraffe out there sometimes. He plays his ass off and doesn’t get rattled and that’s all he needs to be doing.

I assumed he was meaning highly skilled offensively. Nonetheless, this conversation did bring back a pretty good memory - AW's "shush dunk"

when Garza falls down, it is amazing how long it takes him to get up. its like he has to look at his legs to get them to do what he wants so he can stand up

I wonder if a bigger, stronger and more athletic Kevin Huerter is a good comparison for Wieskamp.

Correct.

I worded that poorly. Garza is the most skilled center we have had that also gives high level effort in a long time.

Woody was no doubt a great defender and under-appreciated for that role.

I would take that. Huerter came in ready to play as a freshman. They're both pretty athletic and seem to be able to fill up the stat sheet. That would be a huge upgrade to what we're running out there now.

Tough loss but at least they fought. If this team can make the jump to playing somewhat decent defense next year they should be pretty solid (big If, I know).
