2018 G Carter Frey (Waukee, IA) always plays hard. Has been making plays on both ends today.

2018 G/F Landon Dugan (Davenport, IA) has shot the ball well from 3-point range throughout the day.

2018 PG Matt Mims (Fairfax, IA) is a smart guard that picks his spots very well offensively.

Just two weeks into the boys basketball season, a ninth-grader is creating plenty of buzz around the Mississippi Athletic Conference.

In a league that returns seven first- and second-team all-conference players, Muscatine's Joe Wieskamp paces the MAC in scoring.

The 6-foot-4 freshman is registering 23.3 points per game, including a career-high 32 points Friday night in a 71-62 loss to Davenport North.

Wieskamp, ranked as one of the state's top prospects in the 2018 class by recruiting services, is shooting 53.5 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from the 3-point line along with averaging 5.3 rebounds a contest.

"He's definitely earned the right to be at this level and he's only going to get better," Muscatine coach Brandon Welsch said.

On the contrary, I'd say nobody knows for sure at this point. Even if he's a can't miss guy, what if he gets in a JetSki accident when he's 16 and goes into a coma which he comes out of at age 24 then goes straight to the pros? Really too early to tell.
