I like getting good in State kids. If anything it keeps iowa state shut out from anyone decent that grows up on iowa.
who was the last decent instate kid ISU got? I honestly can't think of one.
I know. it’s great. Iowa Basketball is the in-state destination for iowa kids. And iowa produces good ballplayers. We need to keep ISU from ever becoming relevant in-state.

It helps that Des Moines produces shit for talent while western and eastern iowa produce D1 talent on a regular basis.

Donovan Jackson
Brady Ernst
Dustin Hogue
DeMarcus Phillips
Laron Dendy
L.A. Pomlee
Clayton Vette
Jessan Gray
Jiri Hubalek
Ross Marsden

10 total recruits from Iowa since 2002. Jackson will probably end up being the most successful from that forgettable group.

Most of those guys were jucos not originally from iowa or transfers in.
Yes. The only two that have or will contribute were both out of state juco guys. Hogue and Jackson.
Jiri Hubalek was better than either of those two. Which is sad. Harrison Barnes and Doug McDermott were obviously the big swing and misses in retrospect, but neither was coming to ISU with the program as it was at that point. Other tough Iowa misses were Jok, who Hoiberg did like until Lefty Moore got in trouble and they had to back off, and Uthoff who’s uncle is all over the ISU record books.

I don’t know why Iowa born coaches like McDermott and Hoiberg weren’t able to/wouldn’t make more in roads in Iowa high school recruiting but it is incredibly frustrating to watch so much D1 talent come out of the state and not to go ISU. Hopefully Prohm can turn that around a little, but it’s an uphill battle against Fran right now. And eastern Iowa is churning out much more high level talent than central or certainly western Iowa.

Does ISU even recruit the state that hard? My impression was that they kinda ignored it for a long time, which let Fran come in, build a great relationship with the local high school and AAU coaches and really lock it down. Having his kids involved with the local AAU teams can't hurt either. Definitely seems like the talent level in state is way on the upswing, which will be huge for Iowa

Fran isn’t an idiot which is why he focuses on iowa. Iowa is the superior institution, program, and conference which is why ISU will never outrecruit Iowa instate.

This is starting to sounds a lot like 'we have the bigger enrollment!'

I’m sure ISU is simply passing on these Top 100 iowa kids. It’s not because Iowa is the destination of choice of most instate kids.

Yep, they ignored it completely for too long and are having a hard time rebuilding.

Need Jake Sullivan's AAU team to pop out one of these top 100 guys and get back in the game. (and even then looking through their somewhat sad alumni list, the only two high D1 basketball players that I see are Zach McCabe and Eric May)

Are they still considered high D1 basketball players if they actually should've been playing at Wartburg?

Pretty sure Eric May was plenty good at Iowa. And I generally enjoyed the Zach McCabe Hawkeye era.

May was fun (relatively speaking) as a freshman and a solid role player as a senior. In between wasnt great but at least he had cool dunks.

McCabe was good that one year he could hit 3s and pretty infuriating otherwise.

Jake had no connection to the AAU careers of those two.
I didn’t figure. They’re listed as Kingdom Hoops alumni. I assume in younger grades. Mostly was making a joke about their sad alumni list.

He and McCabe both played for the Attack, who I think Jake was associated with at one point.

The name of the game isn't getting the best kids from Iowa, it's getting the best players you can. Luckily, it looks like over the next few years things are lining up for those two categories to have a lot of overlap, but laughing at ISU for not landing an Iowa player, when they've simply been the better team, is asinine.

Look how iowa state has built their best runs. Juco and four year transfers. Iowa can’t and won’t go that route. If ISU thinks it’s sustainable more power to them.

Of course they can’t get top iowa kids so they have to look elsewhere.

My INSIDER sources had told me Even Brauns is a high major player and he seems to be backing that up at camps.

You mean the public twitter posts from the other day saying he was a solid 6'9'' post with a face up game? Yeah, I saw that too.

Do you have any thoughts of your own on the matter or is that your thing..... you come to this thread, recite some public twitter post and embarrass yourself in an attempt to impress some dude with a Mike Gundy hard on you're already related to?

Listen, there are two certainties in life.

1. Don't do that
2. You dropped $30k on in state tuition you coulda had for $1.50 in late fees at the Field House parking garage.

Fundamentals are fun
Those of you who went to Iowa basketball camp will remember Mass Fundamentals. Not the best part of camp to say the least. Well some jokester in our group took to calling it Mass UNfundamentals.

That guy, let me tell you.
