Great photo, Dawson.
For real. If I was the grad assistant in charge of whatever intern put that banner together, no matter how slovenly and lazy I was, prior to leaving for the Airliner on a Tuesday night my directive would be something along the lines of: "do whatever the fuck you want. If we offer anyone while I'm out, try to put Aaron White in the banner. If you put Zach McCabe in it I will kill you."

Seems a tad bit extreme.

Looks like he forgot to give the “no Brady Ellingson” talk, as well.

Is Suggs still looking to
play both basketball and football?

I honestly don’t know how this would be possible in his day and age. You would have to go to a school that rarely goes to bowl games and also sucks bad enough that there is immediate playing in hoops. Any schools come to mind?

On the one hand, unlike Carton he and his family are solid Hawkeye fans. On the other hand, I sense a close second or third coming (not exactly going out on a limb here).

Maybe he will follow in the dual sport success of BJ Ray, Marvin Singleton, and Eric Sanders

Are the last relatively high profile guys to do this Peppers and Ronald Curry at UNC? I can't think of any others off the top of my head. You see it with football and baseball or track pretty regularly but there isn't as much season overlap there.

Nate Robinson did it at Washington in 2002-03.

Wolf is a nice high school player. He isn’t an FCS/MVC level scholarship athlete.

Pierre Pierce lettered in both basketball and rape at least one year, I think.

Yes, there are lots of people who were on multiple sports team.

None of them were actually good at two sports, which was the point.

It's also nearly impossible to play football and basketball at the division 1 level because the body type and conditioning required is completely different to be good at both.

It's rare but Robinson actually was really good at both and probably could have gone pro in whichever one he decided to stick with.

Peppers didn't put up huge numbers in basketball but got decent minutes as a bench guy on a Final Four team and was starting for a tournament team by the end of his sophomore year. His rate stats were all pretty good too.

Winfield and Ainge get a pass -- the basketball/baseball combo is a little easier to make work from a s&c perspective, though baseball players have really bulked up over the past twenty-five years. Also, those guys were playing in the late stone ages of s&c (and did little, or no, lifting while collegiate athletes).

Doug's point still holds: the football/basketball combo is really difficult to make work with modern s&c practices. PF/TE, QB/PG are workable combinations, but the kid probably won't be able to dedicate the practice time to hone fine-motor basketball skills.

Maybe WR/SG, but I can't recall one since Andre Rison (who couldn't shoot and had a shaky handle -- fine motor skills, again).

Bruce Ellington averaged double figures as a guard at South Carolina and was an All-SEC wide receiver that is still playing in the NFL.
