College sports kinda suck now if you have a school you follow. The CFP has rendered most college football games useless and the transfer portal has made college basketball a joke. I’m all for player rights but this shit is getting out of hand. Adam Miller and Frederick were both starters on their respective teams and were poised to be the featured player on their team but nope! 5 years ago this news would piss me off. Now it’s just the way it is. Unfortunately for Iowa, Fran is a little behind on accepting the portal and using it.

Does the NCAA have some sort of tampering rule like the NBA? Not that Kentucky would ever get in trouble for it, but it just seems wrong that a player could have already essentially agreed to play for a new team when he hasn’t even officially entered the transfer portal.

Where he redshirted, started for two years, was going to be the featured offensive guy, play with teammates he had for 2-3 years and have a chance to finally stay healthy and see if they could get to the tournament for his 3rd straight year with every game on tv again. Maybe become an all Big Ten player and be a great at a good school.

This idea that everyone would just transfer if their situation isn’t exactly perfect in every way is such bullshit. There’s plenty of middle ground between old school mentality on players rights and that nonsense. Just like some of the situations in the NBA where you should just sit out and demand a trade regardless of how many years you have on your contract and how the organization has tried to cater to you.

with overlapping AAU programs/summer ball it seems like just about every decent college player knows guys at the main schools they would consider going to (excepting real transfers up) so it’s probably impossible to enforce, even if it’s going to be abused a ton with the portal.

It’s annoying because it is also possible to support players having some rights but also start to care less if 1/3 of rosters are going to turn over every year. I care about these guys because they’re good at a game and play for a team I care about, the more you separate the latter ties the less reason you have to care.

Welcome to the future of college basketball. Sort of funny how many times we laughed at Xavier Foster and Iowa State and how things flipped around completely in a matter of months, and here we are now looking at it flipping completely around again.

If a program like Iowa and a coach like Fran can't keep Fredrick around after their shared connections and history, then I don't have a clue who you can ever count on keeping.

I understand that Fredrick is from Kentucky and likely feels like that is too good of an option to pass up, but it fucking sucks and is a bad sign for any coach that isn't ready and willing to be a total scumbag going forward.

Starters: Toussaint, Perkins, Patrick, Connor/Kris, Keegan

Bench: Ulis, Sandfort, Connor/Kris, Ogundele, Mulvey

Laughably poor shooting from that starting unit. If you play Kris over Connor at least you get good defense from the starting five.

It will be a long season.
