Looks like the best case scenario is the skinny Senegalese kid at the Juco, but it sounds like he has his sights set on on best rep program that offers him, and says that he wants to go to the program that offers the best chance of him getting into the NBA (which, despite Marble, Uthoff, Cook, Weiskamp, Garza, and Murray all getting into the league, means not Iowa, in most kids' perspective).

Freeman seemed like a great get at the time, who would give some real momentum to the class. Instead, fizzle city.

The Fran fizzle needs to become a thing. It's more fun sounding than the Fran fade.

LOL. One, maybe 2 of those guys, are actual NBA players. You may as well have thrown Woody in there. I can't believe kids don't recognize a name like Devyn Marble or Jarrod Uthoff. Iowa does not offer kids the best chance to the NBA. What they do offer, is a chance for scrawny white guys to get some solid PT at a power 5 program.

If you're good enough for the NBA, you'll be found.

Losing out on this guy isn't all that disappointing. Iowa tried getting involved late, and it never really took off.

Fran is like Kirk in that he hates the portal, transfers, JUCO scene. Almost has to land someone by accident given the weak sorry ass effort. So recruiting must really be sucking now for Fran to seek a Juco.

No LOL. Apart from Keegan, the guys he he's put in the league are, by NBA standards, marginal guys. Now, a marginal NBA player is still in the N-B-Fucking-A. But, no out-of-state kid who has their eyes on the NBA is going to want to go to a place where the best players have bounced back and forth on two-ways and 10-days over the years (and in-state kids like Biliew and Foster).

We're saying the same thing. I was trying to be a bit more positive, however, and give Fran credit for getting some guys to that level.

You'd think being the 2nd choice for all these guys would maybe lead to a disgruntled transfer here in the future. Not sure its actually happened yet. Uthoff maybe?

Fran isn't in Kirk's league recruiting wise.

In football, we actually win some recruiting battles for kids with really good offers. Basketball is almost entirely Iowa kids or under the radar kids with no good offers.

We should be happy/surprised Fran has been as successful as he's been with his approach.

I wouldn't call Cook or Garza "under the radar with no good offers." Bowen was ranked when he signed. Freeman was well-ranked when he committed.

NIL has changed the whole dynamic, and even though Iowa has a collective, Fran doesn't seem to be down with the new recruiting game.

Jack better be pretty fucking good. He may not be surrounded by much.

If there ever was a time to capitalize it would be immediately following 3 straight seasons with an all American

Luka, Cook, Freeman, Bowen, Mulvey and CJ just off the top of my head have all had multple power 5 offers. That's just in recent years.

“Multiple power 5 offers” Probably shouldn’t be the bar. Especially when you name just six players over six years.

What the fuck are you morons even talking about?

Since 2017 alone there have been 17 recruits signed. Of those 17 recruits, 6 didn't have a Power 5 offer. The ones that didn't were the following:

CJ Fredrick (currently at Kentucky)
Joe Toussaint (currently at West Virginia. Offers from Dayton, UMass, UNLV and more)
Keegan Murray (Top 5 NBA Draft pick)
Kris Murray (Projected mid-1st round NBA Draft pick)
Tony Perkins (current starter and impact player)
Ahron Ulis (role player)

His only true miss on a signed recruit is arguably Ahron Ulis, but he is as up in the air as it gets. Looked good as a freshman, struggled as a sophomore. That is hardly a miss when he was signed as a role player. The rest of the guys on that list were either home runs or left and are currently at a blue blood and another at a very good program.

CJ had offers from Xavier, Penn State, IU, and others.
Yeah, that as well.

Fran has missed on big big names. He nearly had like 10 of them and finished runner up. So fucking what, he has done insanely well getting under the radar guys like the Murray twins or Tony Perkins in addition to getting a ton of Top 150 players.

Even this year, people are acting like Iowa isn't getting anyone. They are getting a highly recruited post, a Top 75-ish guy and an under the radar PG that came on late.

People act like he didn't get anyone. It's fucking stupid.

Go back even further. 5 recruits in 2016 and the only one without multiple Power 5 offers was bohannon.

Fran undeniably missed terribly in his infamous 2014 and 2015 classes. Those were full of dogshit, but starting with the 2016 class and through 2023, he has put together good classes across the board. It's the reason Iowa continues to be ranked and finish in the top half of the Big Ten, have multiple NBA players including a Top 5 pick, multi-year NCAA Player of the Year, and a half dozen first team All-Americans.

His 2011 / 2012 / 2013 were all good to really good. His first class in 2010 had a 1st team All-Big Ten and NBA draft pick.

The timing of this class makes it feel strange.

Freeman has a ton of offers but committed early. Harding is kind of meh, and Sandfort- despite being a ranked player, gets little fanfare as we all sort of expected him to follow his brother eventually. Then you get a bunch of misses clumped together at the end.

Makes it feel like things are going poorly, but Freeman and Sandfort are good recruits. Harding could prove to be a good player, but as a recruit he's a stretch.

Harding is fine given they have Bowen in the previous class. He's being signed as a role playing backup PG.

Our expectations would be so much more realistic if no white kids were allowed to be ranked in the Top 100 of any service.

It's unfortunate that after a National Player of the Year big that Fran's best 4/5 get was a kid who has dropped a good bit over the last year. That's not exactly the trajectory that you want. Then again, Nic Racocevic plummeted during the summer after his junior year, but he's turned out all right....

I like Sandfort. I like Harding. I look at the roster and, after Murray, see a lot of undersized guys who can shoot, or thin guys who can score, or injury question marks, or just question marks (well, one big question mark in JoshO). Perkins is the big exception. Perkins could be pretty good next year, and he'll need to be, because he may be *the guy* for this team (I'm not sold on Patrick as the kingpin).

At the very worst, Freeman should be a notch better than Kriener. He may well be the player that Nunge would have been without the injuries. Harding looks like an annoying little fuck, in the best possible way. But it's hard to see a difference maker on next year's roster, unless Perkins makes a serious jump. A Fran team that can score a lot and hoses itself on defense is what we've come to know and love, but the prospective roster would have looked a whole lot better with just one of Power or Estrella.

Maybe Fran lands his big one in '24.
