It's always felt like the QB situation to me. Kirk didn't think it was fair to evaluate Petras with the line and WRs being awful. Going to the portal to get help is Kirk's way of giving Brian another shot.

If Iowa was going to have a new OC, wouldn't you want him on staff helping with transfer evaluations? Unless they are going Budmayr, which is almost the same as no change.

Did I miss original memo where we’re losing the water tower?

Who amongst hasn't put an incompetent child of ours in a position of authority? We all do it....all would do it.
I’m not sure “all of us do, or would do this,” but let’s accept for a second that this is true.

That serves as the EXACT reason nepotism policies exist in the first place. Policy that Iowa very stupidly ignored.

It’s unthinkable that Kirk would bring Brian back. The more time that passes, it increasingly looks like he will.

Going to be beyond uncomfortable in Kinnick next year when Spencer badly misses a wide open receiver with Brian fondly looking on.

Season Ticket emails went out today. Gotta believe there will be a lackluster response, short of any significant (ie OC) changes.

Let's apply this thinking to the business world.

Suppose that I have a VP of Sales who has been with me for six years. For the first four years he was mediocre at best, and for the past two years has failed miserably based upon any and all metrics. Now imagine that as CEO I try to explain to my board of directors that we shouldn't fire the VP of Sales as he cannot be blamed for having a crappy group of sales people.

No way that flies. No way.

Just last year they said they were betting on themselves.

That is the very laughable part of this. Kirk and others gave him MORE responsibility this year than last, and enthusiastically and emphatically repeated the faith and trust they had in him. They doubled down after 2021…and when it was an abject, flaming dumpster fire….they and others want to go “well, he didn’t have the pieces or tools necessary to do the job.”

That’s insane. They are insane.

He didn’t have good pieces.

He put together the bad pieces.

Point stands.

I'll volunteer someone else to eat a bowl of their shit if Brian is back at OC, that's how sure I am he won't be!

No Dad. I don’t deserve it. That’s nepotism.

Not many people have ever said that and meant it.
The good news for most public organizations is that typically what has been said by a real human who neither Dad nor Son in that situation is "No (Dad), you can't do that. That's nepotism."

Sure dead last P5 offense sounds bad. But Kirk remembers that time Brian got an A on his art project. He’s a special boy, certainly.

Can they paint the water tower the visiting teams colors and have it get hit by the hawkeye hauler every game?

If you guys think Brian is only still here because of nepotism, how do you explain Copeland not getting fired?

Kirk Ferentz couldn’t justify firing ANYONE on staff if he didn’t fire Brian.* It would be indefensible.

*Brian will not be our OC next year.
Needs to happen soon - I'm getting antsy. My billboard is ready to go up in Iowa City.

I feel like Ben Affleck’s character in Good Will Hunting. Every morning when I log into Halo, I hope to find out that greaseball Brian has moved on.
I absolutely have no idea how they can keep him. Not only is he terrible at his job but everyone on the team hates him, and it's been that way for a while. Former players fucking hated the guy
