The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly versus Minnesota Duluth:

The Good:

Freeman was a man among boys down low.

Dix looked smooth on offense. showed all aspects of his game: hit from 3, hit a bunch from mid range (his go-to), and also had a nice drive or two. Iowa's best all-around player.

Fartman showed he will be an elite offensive player this year. Looks stronger than last year.

Little Fart looked good all around. remains to be seen if he can surpass his bro defensively which is 100% what's needed.

Koch - looked ok which i'll call 'good' as it surpassed my expectations. Not surprisingly he can shoot. Really lacks strength though which will impact his ability to affect the game in other ways beyond shooting.

The Bad:

Freeman still picks up dumb fouls. Hope he worked on defensive footwork over the off season instead of chucking threes with Frank Garza all day long.

Thelwell looked a little lost. Unclear why he only played 9 minutes. Did he anger Marge somehow? in the doghouse for some reason? Tough to get in a rhythm with a new team when you only play 9 minutes. Isn't that what an exhibition game should be for? baffling. That said, he didn't stand out while playing in any way other than looking much stronger and more athletic than Iowa's other guards.

Brock Harding had dumb turnovers, and didn't score. Didn't affect the game positively very much. Dribbled around aimlessly mostly. he'll do better than this. he did better than this last year.

Dembele's perimeter defense - has Garza-like concrete shoes. he should back up the 5 only. too slow to play alongside Freeman. let others play the four. this would let Freeman play more freely and not worry so much about fouls.

Each of Big Fart, Traore, and Dembele's defensive rotations were horrendous. This coupled with the typically slow foot speed of most Iowa defenders is a slow motion train wreck.

the Canada recruit (can't remember his name) didn't even play which is an ugly thing to think about. How bad can he be? really bad apparently if Mulvey is getting pt over him in an exhibition against northern minnesota all stars.
