There is some of that and he doesn’t have a set style, but he is big on using the shot clock to get the best possible shot as well as to control games. That’s not going to lead to 80 ppg without Emporia State on the schedule
That sounds like Purdue.

There are plenty of outliers, but the top 5 kenpom teams have a tempo ranking of 124, 270, 360, 339 and 98. To be fair, the next best team plays at the fastest tempo overall. Purdue (8 overall) is at 287.

Not to repeat myself, but there are plenty of really bad teams that play slow as well. But there seems to be a bit of a trend that doesn't favor playing fast.

DeVries at WVU is like 330 and Medved at CSU is 220. Not exactly blistering. I actually wish Fran would slow it the fuck down right now with Iowa's limited depth and their terrible defensive rebounding.

Having watched nearly every game of all three of them Medved did the most with the least although he might be a Peter Principle hire. He also looks like Peewee Herman. Wife was kinda hot though and he would bring Farokhmanesh so the Wade brothers could masturbate to something. DeVries is the best at assembling talent and generally plays a fun style other than his four-minute offense that abandons all movement for someone pounding the rock from 40 feet for 20 seconds. I think that McCollum is on the spectrum but is extremely good at coaching players to fit. Recruiting is sort of TBD. You guys would hate his offensive style and should avoid Lick 2.0. He is probably off to West Virginia if DeVries leaves so I think Iowa should hire Peewee.
Farokmaneshs wife is smoking too

If it’s completely hopeless for Iowa to ever have even something resembling ISU level financial support, just become Minnesota hoops and call it a day.
I know a couple Iowa guys personally who haven’t received calls or anything from the swarm who have fairly deep pockets. I don’t think we are doing outreach to our alumni base very well at all.

because the school isn’t sharing donor lists

Well that seems dumb. One of these guys owns a legitimate mansion in Chicago. Maybe he’s just giving his money to wrestling and I didn’t understand but I don’t think so.

Maybe he's just a homosexual who doesn't like men's basketball.

It would be cool if the coaching change brought this board back to life. In The first five-six years or so of Fran’s run it was a lot of fun.
I miss it. Don't like being this way about Iowa Basketball, but currently feels exactly like some combination of the end of the Alford / Lick years.

It's basically either DeVries or McCollum. If they aren't willing to spend the money, then just hire Ben for cheap.
If DeVries can take WV to an 8th place finish in the Big 12, who knows what he could do at Iowa.

I think DeVries would be 1 because I think he’d be the best overall fit. Would be a positive for Joe Iowa Fan, has relationships in the state that would bring money and has HM experience with flexibility in style and recruiting. If they miss the tournament, maybe it’s not a bidding war and he just wants home and security.

I’m not a basketball scheme expert but know people who talk about McCollum like a savant. I get the Bo Ryan comps and he could be a great fit. People always talk about him like he’s a weirdo too so the Lick comparisons go beyond style. Maybe he’d be perfect though and if he is a savant, he’d stay.

I watch a fair amount of MWC and Medved has under achieved at times. He could be fine but wouldn’t really excite me.

We talked about Huss and he might be a mini-Fran with maybe some upside but been at a lower level.

Jans would be great but I don’t ultimately see it happening.

Russell Turner at UC-Irvine is fucking awesome but has been on the west coast for 25 years and used to be branded an asshole. Probably gonna get a big job soon.

Josh Schertz might be a less awkward version of McCollum and I think he could be a great fit.

Luke Murray and Kimani Young at UConn would be big swings but will get HC jobs at some and have some crossover with Goetz. Either would probably have more upside in recruiting but would be climbers and have a lower floor.

I've watched a few McCollum interviews and I don't get the spectrum stuff. He might be a little dull, but he's no Harbaugh.

I judge more from an interaction, but I also put a lot of people on the spectrum.

i have no knowledge of his parenting though.

Agreed. He’s been branded a weirdo/savant for a while but his media stuff seems pretty normal.

I would go Jans #1 without question. He's 55 years old and won everywhere and has Mississippi State in the Top 25. He can recruit and would be motivated with connections in Iowa to finish his career here.

Devries #2 at 50 years old and I know nothing about the Drake coach but I guess he can be #3 as the young guy.

wade’s claim that we’ll never have enough money to have a roster that doesn’t look like a typical Fran roster
I don’t think you need more money than we’ve always had. It’s the kind of player that Fran recruits coupled with the horrible defense that just hasn’t translated to the kind of success we’d like.

I think overall it’s been OK but I think Iowa has more than enough resources to recruit our footprint to get enough talent.

If you want Raveling/Nike level recruiting, that’s a pipe dream my friend.

The criminal comparisons are so unfair. Does McCollum have a Brad Stevens level talent as an assistant?

No, but Tyler Sash's brother is an assistant for Drake.

Did he finally find a legitimate Douche point guard?
He’s exhausted his eligibility.

Nobody is arguing that Iowa should retain Fran, you dipshit. The argument is, you can absolutely recruit a different type of athlete at Iowa, even under similar financial restraints. Thelwell is part of the proof, regardless of eligibility.

Relax little fella. I agree, nobody is arguing Fran should be retained. I was pointing out that of the guys coming in for next season, none are PGs.

Thats what the transfer portal is for.
Yep. Only takes a couple of hits in the portal to turn the entire thing around.

There has to be multiple non P5 guys that are capable of playing in the douche and better than most PGs Iowa has successfully recruited.

I’m more in the Strat camp than Wade camp, and I want someone who will consistently target and appeal to a very different kind of player than Fran historically has at Iowa.

So we all seem to be assuming Fran is gone after this year. What's the confidence level on that? 75% 90%?
