It’s a bummer she’s leaving…who knows how good she could be if she had stayed. But it’s not really a surprise….my insider! sources say her dad is on the Brian Joens spectrum of parents, so I imagine he’s been in her ear about things, much like Guyton’s dad last year.
How's his tenderloin game?

Women's basketball players are getting NIL?

That's like giving a special Olympics champion a shoe deal.

Yeah she wasn't very good but it was her freshmen year. Heiden wasn't very good last year either. Stremlow too. She's not going to be anywhere in the Clark realm which is probably what she was imagining.

Well, I guess you can put 2+2 together from these reposts and figure out exactly what happened. Demand to start, demand for more $$ (even though the Skim Mulkey post isn't about Deal) and looks like Iowa balked and laughed at her.

Heiden looked really good at the end of the year. Her issues were always getting on the court, not what she did when she got playing time.

And if that's how it went down they were right to tell her off, because you can get a 5-ppg point guard in the portal for way the hell less than what we were probably paying Deal.

Can we get some good intel on what Iowa wbb's roster NIL/revenue sharing actually is?

And what p4 teams are committing on average? I can't believe people are throwing money at this.

Roundabout way of saying isn't someone like Levin going to be taking a pay cut?

Will Levin get 30+ minutes a game at Iowa State? They seem to need a roster.
Idk abt 30+ but I think she can play at that level. I’m not quite sure what kept her off the floor to be honest.

Maybe her practice habits? Who knows. Honestly thought she was better than Feurbach.

It took one of the greatest players in women's basketball history to get Iowa to the highest level. That was a great time.

Iowa was a #2 seed and go destroyed by the top teams this season. Lucy Olsen was a good bridge, Chit Chat is limited.

Losing to a play-in team at home as a #2 seed hopefully won't set the program back. Have to recruit/portal at a high level, not sure that is really possible at Iowa. Deal might not ever be any good, but, it is not a good sign when a high level recruit leaves after one season.

Mehhhh I mean you’d like her to stay but as soon as I saw she wasn’t getting BIG minutes I felt like this was going to be a possibility.

A west coast kid coming to Iowa? Yeah it works if she’s a star otherwise, go somewhere closer to home.

Iowa can't afford to pay highly rated recruits when they don't live up to their billing. That money is better spent elsewhere.

Feeling more and more like this played out how Doug suggested. She wanted more guaranteed minutes and money, Iowa told her to hit the street.

To be clear, I think it was mostly her agency as they tried to do the same with both players that entered the portal yesterday, or at least playing time on the second one.

Nice of the parents to move to Iowa for 8 months, though. The realtors will appreciate the fees.

Iowa can afford to pay anyone they want but yes they definitely need good returns on investments

Interested to see where Deal goes. She’s not good enough for either USC or UCLA

More Insider! scoop…apparently one point of friction with Deal was that she refused to learn how to feed the post and just wanted to play hero ball. Again…probably had people in her ear about what she should be doing instead of listening to and trusting her coaches.

She was really bad at it.
She was. Jan didn’t do her any favors with the triangle because everything was so stagnant and post oriented.

It’s a common misconception that the triangle is for teams with dominant posts. Unfortunately that’s how Jan installed it. So many other options/action/reads out of it but they didn’t even come close to running much of it.

maybe Deal watched numerous entry passes from 35 feet that resulted in turnovers and didn't think they were good ideas.

So you’re saying Jan is no Tex Winter?

Unfortunately she’s not. And to be clear I’m not either but I did work for a triangle guru in Scottsdale so I know what it can look like. Because of that it was painful for me to watch Iowa run it.

Honestly surprised they got as much out of it as they did.

I was once VERY terrified of the Bermuda Triangle.
