Offensive genius, players coach, a great interview, developed some good/great players. Luka Garza is one of my favorites of all time. A truly horrendous defensive coach who also produced soft players and a soft program. And worst of all, they are those parents. Their little angels can do wrong.

I was about to say, I bet Connor pops off on Twitter before the end of the day, but it looks like he already has.
This was the part I was hoping they could come to a mutual agreement on, and that would be Fran taking a buyout and walking away on good terms.

Nope, he made them fire him and it's going to be angry contention and after 15+ years in the Iowa City community him and his family will do nothing but talk an enormous amount of shit about the University of Iowa on their way out the door.

Fran wants to keep coaching. He's going to get another job quickly is my guess and he might end up taking the two Moline rats along with him and a couple of the incoming recruits. There will be some desperate high majors with NIL money that would take a shot on him.
I really don’t think so.

There isn’t a Douche or SEC program that will hire him. Maybe a smaller ACC or Big East school.

He's not getting a major coaching job anywhere. Mid major at best.

He'll go finish his career in the NEC or MAAC.
He can do better than that. Of course he hasn't had to in 15 years, but his specialty is taking over a program and turning it around within 12-24 months. I'm guessing he won't be expensive and will want to go somewhere he can coach Jack and have Connor on the staff.

Is it true that Fran blocked a CR news station from any access to his press conferences and interviews because they covered his kid's accident in detail?

He could, but he seems to be someone who wouldn't want the hassle.

Fran looks like a guy who could use a year or two off. Not counting this last one.

Don’t buyouts usually get offset by earnings if coaching elsewhere? Not that it matters or would be much anyway, but I thought that was pretty standard. Hence some coaches negotiating settlement amounts less than their buyout (Paul Chryst comes to mind). In the grand scheme, Fran’s buyout is peanuts so no big deal either way. Just curious.

plenty of good memories

but plenty of disappointment as well. Still sucks thinking about guys like Garza who will be mostly forgotten outside of Iowa for not doing anything in March

Penn is the only open job that makes any mutual sense and I don’t know if he’d want to do that.

Fran to Drake for a few years, where Connor becomes his assistant. Connor takes over when Fran retires, has one good year before getting a high major job, where he quickly flames out and fades into permanent obscurity.

I was curious about where the 94 points in yesterday's loss stacks up, and it's actually most amount of points scored in a regulation loss in the Fran era. He's been in the low 90s a few times and 89 happened several times.

I don’t even think he gave a LOT of great memories. 15 years of above average results.

I’ll reserve great memories to Dr Tom and Lute.
Yeah, there were some really good memories but unfortunately not a lot of GREAT memories. I think those memories also vary greatly for general public vs. fans that really watch basketball a lot.

Some of Fran's best general public memories are shit like bohannon hitting a buzzer beater three to beat Northwestern or that crazy comeback a few years ago against Michigan State or the Woodbury buzzer beater in the first round of the NCAA tourney. To me, those games were almost more embarrassing than good. The big exception that everyone loved was the Big Ten Tournament championship.

I'll more always remember the stuff like beating Wisconsin with White hitting the threes as a young player or them running Indiana off the court with Olaseni going crazy and the win on the road against North Carolina. The game in the NIT against Virginia. Smoking Davidson in the tourney.

Whenever they had a chance to really shine and take the next big step, they just absolutely shit the bed. Gesell pooping his pants twice in the last minute against Iowa State. Uthoff disappearing in the second half of Iowa State after scoring 30 in the first half. Embarrassed by Gonzaga and Villanova in the tourney. Losing streak down the stretch of the season that led to a play-in loss against Tennessee. Beat down by Oregon in the NIT and NCAA. Above all the loss to Richmond.

Best moral victories were things like making the NIT final and should have beat Tennessee after a furious comeback to try and finally make the Sweet 16.

I know the 2021 Covid tournament sucked, but 2022 is really where it all fell apart. That loss was infuriating and inexcusable. Just a slow steady fall since then.

That whole stretch is sad and infuriating. Iowa had the National Player of the Year and ranked Top 20 and the season is shut down and the 2020 tournament never happens. Then they get a really good team back and a #2 seed and promptly get their dicks kicked in by Oregon in a ridiculous situation. 2022 they finish strong and get a #5 seed and can't even fucking beat Richmond.

Worst of all though was putting Iowa fans through 7 years of his dickhead sons, especially when he played them over superior players.

@Lee Beevers you gonna be ok today? I know you’re curled up in a ball, crying.
Yes. I wish ol’ Francis was able to beat Richmond in that tourney game a couple seasons ago. A winnable matchup with Providence was waiting. Oh well. Hope the next coach has more success than Fran.

Sounds like there is momentum with DeVries.
They had a really bad loss against a under .500 Colorado team in the first round of the Big XII tournament. Not sure if that would keep them out of the NCAA, but would be interesting to see if he would immediately take the Iowa job or finish out the year at WV.

Bad games happen, but, the Oregon game was a sign, could not compete with the guard play. Style doesn't always work at the level either. Good offense is better to watch, but, may not work when playing against higher level teams.

It does seem like Connor and Patrick might have been a problem for many fans and lost some goodwill
