We also all need to be real today about this... IowaMen'sBasketballFan is one of the worst out there. Downright stupid, actually. Student support has been awful long before Fran. It's not exactly a great job. We are lucky to not be buried at the bottom of the conference every single year.

i dk. feels like fran hadn't been bad enough to get fired, but everything just feels dead. the program, the game experience, any excitement. all dead. fran kind of made the decision for the athletic director. she has much more to worry about than just the hire

They were talking on the radio recently how losing the PTL hurt fan interest. It gave fans something to discuss in the offseason. Now the average fan doesn’t even think about the program after the season ends until January at the earliest

He picked a horrible time to have a down couple of years which coincided with Clark taking attention away from the program and Iowa State becoming good again.

I doubt the next coach will develop players offensively as good as Fran did. Part of it was his fault for recruiting the type of athletes he did. Part of it was the university not supporting him in a way to recruit the type of athletes he needed.

Today was the most anyone at work has ever talked about Iowa basketball. I’m not convinced people stopped caring about Iowa basketball. Sounds like Beth has some significant donors that are now willing to contribute to the program that were not willing to under Fran.

It was the only decision Beth could make, but I still think it sucks it got to this point because Fran is still a very good coach.

I heard Dochterman mention that on one of the podcasts, that and the Drake/UNI games going away as well as shirts vs skins.

I think he's just wrong, and very fat. If they had more March success and if Fran had addressed the defense, nobody would be bringing up PTL.

It boggles my mind that Iowa Basketball doesn’t have at least two non-conference games (such as Drake/Creighton and a cupcake) in Des Moines every year. Yeah, you have to split the gate but you also get to build your tournament resume while playing in front of a home crowd and building fan support.

I don’t think he was a huge asshole. Toward refs and some media idiots, yeah. I’ve heard way more positive personal interactions than negative. People near his circle are super loyal to him.
