Looking back, Fran really was done after the Richmond game. The were pretty mediocre the following year and on their way to not making the NCAA Tournament even with an All-American, but that Michigan State stare down miracle saved their season. They won that game and somehow blew out #15 Indiana the following game.

I'm convinced if they don't pull off that Michigan State game, they lose their final 6 games and finish 17-15 and headed to the NIT. Even after winning those games, they still lost an to a shit Nebrantska team at home on Senior Day and got beat by 13 seed Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament.

Fran would have been on the hot seat heading into the next season where his big score was picking up soft as shit Ben Krikie and missing the NCAA Tourney. He would have been fired, they hire DeVries from Drake and had a good chance to make the tourney this year.

Instead all of it got delayed a year.

If the rumors are true and if Beth is worth a shit, they have had this ready for a couple weeks and have the next hire close to lined up. I'm guessing that also means the new coach has given an idea to Beth who they will want to keep around and to inform those players in exit interviews (likely led by Gatens) that the next coach wants them around and there is renewed NIL money and focus.

If it is DeVries as hoped/rumored, then if he wants some current players there is a good shot some will stay. I'm sure he would be fine keeping Koch and Fartman Jr. around. Dix would be a main priority as your 2nd or 3rd scorer. Try to keep the highly rated recruit. No idea about the Miami transfer. Let the Moline river rats walk and the rest of the garbage walk. Hit the portal for the rest.

Dix will probably leave and who can blame him? He’ll fit in somewhere at a currently better program much better than Perkins has. He’s a much better player than Isaiah Moss lol.

Harding should’ve played baseball like his brother and while Freeman is talented his absence did a lot of heavy lifting on broadcasts while we were losing every game. He doesn’t have the skill or toughness to be this Luka type player he thinks he is, but with that said if the new coach somehow keeps him I’ll gladly take it (he won’t).

I have to assume most of the other guys will leave outside of Koch and Pryce and to that I say whatever. Fran was a solid coach and the players loved him but it was just time for everyone to stop living in Groundhog Day. It feels nice to have a fresh start.

I mean, dix disappears in part because he has good shot selection but mainly because Fartman and Mr McCabe were looking to instantly shoot the ball.

the difference in sandforts shooting percentage and Dix shooting percentage is almost entirely shot selection.

He needs to be more consistently aggressive for sure but he’s played with mediocre to bad PGs and alongside guys that love to shoot as LWade said. He’s a more athletic Gatens and could absolutely do very well for a good team as a second or third option.

I hope pryce leaves. He is not a "solid piece". He may be the worst defender on the team. He lacks the athleticism to be anything other than spot up jump shooter. If he stays ok whatever but cement-foot white guys who cant jump over a phone book are not hard to replace.

The only players worth keeping:

Dix: bes all around player on team. I like watching him play.

Koch: really like his potential. Hard nosed, skilled, good motor. Fundamentally solid. Hope he stays

Traore: as a project role player. Traore is a shockingly bad defender. Zero instincts or fundamentals. Offensive game consists entirely of mid range fade aways. But he could be a serviceable 15 minute guy if someone teaches him rebounding and defense fundamentals.

Harding: would be good to keep as a backup ball handler. Some games (eg illinois) hes totLally overmatched physically and i dont see that ever changing. Hes got a pretty defined ceiling and gaping deficiencies with his game. But its good to have competent ball handlers and his 3 pt shot really improved. Seemed a much headier player than owen freeman. With that said, reading the tea leaves he is gone and i fond it tough to care too much. Though all in all i hope he stays.

Tadjo is beyond raw and at the wrong level. Owen is a big ten role player who thinks hes an nba player, head case, one dimensional, and team cancer. Ladji is pound for pound the worst rebounder ive ever seen. Routinely has balls bounce off his hands, or bounce in front of him. Must have picked up bball late in life. Made big strides once he was able to play his natural position but hes at most a reserve type and would be better off at a lower level. Wish him well.

Pryce was coached defense by Fran mccaffery for two years. He has shot 39% from 3pt overall and 41% in conference play over two years. He’s a career 60% shooter from 2pt You are retarded if you think he won’t have a long list of HM options, but his arms are small or something. I demand big strong toughness!

The best part of his game was taking mismatches off the dribble and being a surprisingly good finisher. 32-51 from 2 in Big Ten games, 66% from 2 on the year. 40% 3 point shooter at 6’7. He’s absolutely a useful piece. Get him in a real strength program and see if you can boost his lateral quickness even marginally.
