Kakert is a dipshit, but he's not stupid. He knows he has zero talent in life to do anything else, but if he just remains a steadfast outlet covering Iowa Hawkeye sports and recruiting that he has a job for the rest of his life. He's made it 20+ years already and he's very likely to retire some day down the road having done this for what will be 40 years at that point.

He figured out long ago that breaking news and putting insider gossip out to the public isn't the way to win favor of the Iowa administration, but acting like he knew "2 weeks ago" is more than enough for his idiot subscribers. He might facilitate insider gossip like the NIL Brad guy, but stays far enough away that he can't be blamed for it.

It's not a great living, he probably has never made more than $75k a year, but that is more than almost all the others. His job is to maintain a stupid message board, do a podcast, drive to Iowa City a few times per week and then spend his fall traveling to watch college football. Not bad for him.
