I don't know shit about fuck but I feel like McDermott is exactly where he belongs at Creighton, and bailing for Indiana would be less than ideal for everyone.
He was very meh at Iowa State back in the day. His career basically took off b/c he had to produce a lottery pick kid who was npoy level in college.

Agreed. But that blue blood mystique, especially for someone his age growing up with Bobby Knight Indiana, has a pretty big pull. He's set for life at Creighton though with a super supportive fan base and administration.

Update from insider on ToS: He said they raised the money for both buyouts, the new salary, and some for Carver renovations, in part from a new donor out of Arizona.
Said Iowa wants to keep some of the future NIL money in house.
Finally said discussions with DeVries hit a small sticking point, but expected it to be worked out soon.

Indiana has also said that they’re going to take the average of what all other Big Ten teams give in profit sharing to basketball then double it with the additional NIL on top of that.

So they’re going to get players. But a lot of his success at Creighton is with guys that have been playing for him for 8 years.

What does that even mean?

I think it'd be a mistake on Indiana's part too. If things don't work out with McDermott they look stupid because they had enough information to suspect it might flop, and if McCollum is thriving by then they look extra stupid. Snagging McCollum now seems like the way better move.

McCollum with that type of Indiana NIL money would be a problem.

From the web...

This is a good summary comparison between McCollum and DeVries. DD is the right guy.

Per a discussion w/ a contact (well connected business man in the community) in Applington-Parkersburg (DD's hometown of course) area, the IA and DeVries camps have been talking for months now. It has nothing to do with the relative timing of Drake still being in a tourney and WVU not. IA has had the money together for awhile to buy out DD contract and add to the NIL to make us competitive (something IA recognizes & DD insisted on). Furthermore, it sounds like the administration recognizes this is the time for a complete reboot on many fronts (marketing, student engagement, big donor funding, moving forward w/ CHA renovation, etc.) and has a good start on funding same.

This has been a done deal for sometime. There is a reason DD sat on the WVU extension for half the season. Also, it sounds like the administration recognizes this is the time for a complete reboot on many fronts. I'd be stunned if this info isn't essentially correct.

DD will be an outstanding coach here at IA to take us to the next level. He's an Iowa guy through and through. As others have said, this is his dream job.

50/50

My sources tell me that there is definitely some smoke there and there's a chance that a deal may get done as soon as tomorrow, but this is a fluid situation and things can change quickly.

Is the new coach going to tell the old strength and conditioning staff to fuck off?

Any word on his relation to the devries poster on here? It would be a badge of honor for me if I can say I fucked the sister or cousin of Iowa's mens basketball coach!

Any idea on what the "small sticking point" is?
