Women’s basketball is consuming a decent amount of NIL dollars that Iowa doesn’t have a lot of. That absolutely has an impact on the men’s program.
The people funding the women’s side are not going to give shit to them men’s side, ever

Then find a coach that can get those donors to pony up for their program. Beckwith and others are always going to donate to the women’s program. Find others.

I’m tired of using successful programs at other sports as a fucking excuse

we will have to see what the final numbers are I guess.

Honestly, I have not heard anything that makes me think he’s not coming to iowa other than what’s being repeated on social media, but it seems to be a given at this point
Your “network” is just a bunch of other dorks that don’t know shit trying to impress themselves and the others with their fake “insider” status. Just a big circle jerk of yokelish retardation.

Seriously, why would anyone with real decision making power share it with some blabbermouth yahoos? What would be the upside for them?

I really hope Indiana spends a portion of those NIL dollars on Pryce Sandfort just like they spent some on Trey Galloway.

So we’re just going to pretend this entire board didn’t rightfully want Fran fired every game for the last two months? We’re going to pretend L Wade knows fucking shit about what people think about the AD after he spent three days telling everyone on multiple boards his former Waukee neighbor was going to be the coach?
I assume you responded to the wrong person with this.

People keep conflating them because Beth could call up the large donors that give to the University of Iowa and say "hey, don't give us the money, send it to the NIL."

That is what every other fucking school seems to have figured out, but somehow the last two AD's at Iowa can't figure it out.
This is what I don't understand. Wtf is the deal with this disconnect.

It's time to give intramural legend Doug his shot.

This has been a PR nightmare for Beth, no doubt about it. Other than that, it shouldn't change much from a coaching search standpoint. Look at mid-majors and go from there. Alford, The Criminal, and Fran were all hired from small schools. It's not like Iowa has been pulling coaches from P5 schools. You don't have to blow the bank on a coach when NIL is the funding issue.

Hire Chris Jans, keep Gatens and then hire Jeff Horner and Dean Oliver as assistants

Goetz didn’t overpay for a guy who isn’t a home run hire. Good for her. Plenty of coaches as good or better than Devries out there.

When BG got the job, much was said about her ability to navigate the new landscape. Translation: NIL. If she fired Fran without a solid plan to shore up bball’s NIL to lure a new coach it’s a major fail.

Oh shut the fuck up. Fran needed to go regardless of who the next coach is going to be. Not one person on this board would have signed up for “keep Fran if we can’t land a top target.” Not one.

What is throwing every dollar possible at football going to accomplish? Indiana basketball has been throwing around ridiculous money at that program with no results. Nebrantska football the same. Iowa wrestling has tried it and they’re no better. Iowa football threw a shit ton of money at the portal 2 years ago and the results are pretty much the same.

As Mikey said, the reality is it’s really hard to win at Iowa. It’s probably not reasonable to expect Iowa to be able to fund football, women’s basketball, men’s basketball and wrestling. Caitlin Clark stole a large portion of attention away from the men at the worst possible time for the men’s program.

I still think you can money ball your way to success. I wouldn’t want Iowa to pay Owen Freeman what others are willing to. If you get McCollum, it’s going to be more about retaining and developing and accepting you’ll likely lose top end guys that will need to be replaced. What Yales Coach did this year is a perfect example.
I mean yeah it absolutely may not do anything, but you’d be spending resources where the fans and AD truly want them.

Really? It was Fran that didn’t embrace it? That’s the laziest take ever.
No shit. Multi-millionaire many times over Fran McCaffery spent his nights in the spring and summer traveling around the area doing fan events begging for money.

IowaMegaDonor, for good or bad, doesn't give a fuck about Iowa Basketball. The only guy that truly does is Gasser and he's a fucking poor in the grand scheme of things.

DeVries while an ideal candidate with his ties is no more of a guarantee than the dozens of guys at mid-majors. He just comes with a higher price point and the local yokel storyline.

The craziest thing about all of this continues to be that the same 10 years ago schools in the Big Ten got about $20m each from tv contracts.

Now they get $100m per school and somehow Iowa can't come up with basic money. They're broke somehow. It's incredible.
Isn’t the difference that the TV money comes from networks by leveraging OSU and Michigan while NIL has to be local?

If Beth somehow pulls Jans, then she has the biggest fucking balls in the State of Iowa.
There is mutual interest, and there have been conversations. A lot of moving parts, starting with him still coaching in the tourney.

Doesn't count when they are in your throat.
My balls aren't in my throat. They are in my pants. But they are probably a bit harder to see currently considering your wife's hands are covering both of them

College basketball seems ripe for moneyball roster building. Beyond a handful of elite studs and a athletic 6’10 plus guys there hundreds if not thousands of players are essentially interchangeable. I doubt most guys who are 500k are worth 5x as much as a 100k guy. There’s still only so much money to go around at the top.
Whatevs. Who wants to be a low revenue club and hope getting cute pays off once every 20 years?
