Their offense was top 20 in the country. Their defense…pretty bad.

And why is he an attractive candidate ?
He’s coaching in the tournament, and Iowa is sitting home coachless. And he coached at La Lumiere and then under Craig Neal, so he has plenty of experience paying players.

If only we had a billionaire donor.

He wasn't, however their previous choices all said no. That's how this works.
I’m on vacation all week, so just barely following, but that man at that school makes no sense. He had success, but mostly with his kid as a dominant player, at Drake, and was a bubble team at WVU. The Iowa connection makes him an attractive choice for Iowa, but I look forward to him being back in the valley in 5 years.

HPU has an awesome new arena and way more NIL money than we do. Plus he gets to live in North Carolina, not Iowa.

This is like @mobyditch coming back to HaLo, morning after morning, each day posting something just a wee bit stupider than his efforts of the prior day.
Moby's apparently been gone for over eight years, but a lot of his old posts, particularly those about Trump's stranglehold on the GOP base and the rise of anti-intellecualism in the party, look much less stupid with the benefit of hindsight.

He's going to wait and see if McDermott leaves

Here is what was told to me about the last few days by someone who would have been privy to some conversations around the coaching change.

Beth wanted DD.
DD wanted to come to Iowa.
Beth and DD's agent agreed to general terms (years/$$$s)
Beth and DD were working to arrange time/place to meet.
DD's agent called Beth and said Indiana was now in play and wanted more money.
Beth told DD's agent to fuck off.

If he has more than $2M in NIL in the 17th best league where almost all teams don’t have $400K, then he’s not doing that great of a job.

Radford just had a dad buy his son the coaching job and that was supposedly for $1.5M which would put them at the top of the league.

Fran was treated very unfairly regarding NIL support. If we game him a real budget and his kids didn't suck at basketball the Fran era would have gone much differently.

Reading the tea leaves elsewhere, this is what it seems happened. Pretty sure DeVries family also thought they were Iowa bound. It was close to a done deal Monday night.

Perhaps if his kids didn't shit all over Iowa fans, those same fans would have been more interested in investing in Fran. Those little McCaffery cunts couldn't even make it a day before running to Twitter

He’s 72 years old.
Wouldn’t bother me. He appears to be in good shape and given the new landscape of college sports requiring coaches to re-recruit current players as well as recruiting players from other teams, I don’t think hiring him is a bad idea given his track record. Even if he’s only there four years, who cares if he wins big.

What does IU have that he doesn’t have now? He just won the league and Big East tournament and got a 2 seed. He has a sugar daddy and can do whatever he wants while living in NYC which he loves.

Fair point. IU has more prestige (whatever that’s worth) and the ability to pay him more. He’d be closer to his horses? Maybe he wouldn’t take the job, but I’d take a run at him. DD seems like an underwhelming hire for IU.

how is the NIL paid out? Lump sum at the start of the season? Monthly? I'm guessing its a lump sum up front which is why so many players are quitting mid year or just laying down.

As someone on TOS mentioned, DD managed to piss off three different schools last night.
Apparently he went ghost mode on everyone at WVU starting Sunday night. Most found out when we all did. And in 2025 style, most players blocked/unfollowed him and Tucker while talking shit through emojis.

To be fair, Dolph has done plenty to get himself fired. That open mic incident re: recruiting and Maishe Dailey would've pissed off any coach and Fran was 100% justified (even if Dolph was correct).

But he was correct so I forgive him.
