Tremendous dumbfuck Tom Kakert posted it on his subscription site, that other folks have access to, but nobody else has also read it and started talking about it? Got it.

This is starting to sound like the modern way of attaining information. Someone told you something that they saw somewhere and now it's fact because it agrees with your preconceived idea about the situation. No verification needed.

I mean he literally reported “a solid player who will see some minutes this year” but it’s just easier to call everyone else stupid.
Did you literally see it? Sounds like you didn't since it's sub only.

Is it possible they're talking about Joey Matteoni or whatever?

yes, I have a subscription. To both sites. Hence how I was able to read the content. Science is fucking amazing.

Hmmm. Let me see.....where did I get the idea that you DIDN'T have a subscription? Oh yeah:
both sites are subscription only
Because SCIENCE would demonstrate that someone with subscription could screenshot it and post it, but you indicated you couldn't post it. That's strange.

If that’s specifically what was said, it very well could be true. “Solid player” could be said about a lot of guys, and “will see some minutes” is much more likely meaning in blowout situations vs Slippery Rock than a rotation player getting any meaningful minutes.

Oh yeah he sucks and won't play at all. Said no coach ever on media day. It's the same shit they said about matteoni, who I'm sure will also be getting starters minutes.

I think our boy Wade is adhering to the internet code of ethics for not sharing paid content on an unpaid site.

I think.

So let me get this straight. There's a piece of Juicy information that he read on a subscription site and couldn't wait to run over here to share with everyone, even though it's supposed to be information for subscribers only. But he's too ethical to screenshot it?

Cayden Daughtry, a top 5 player in this year's class and a guy that would be Iowa's highest-ever recruit has the Hawks in his final 3-4 teams. I'm hearing he's leaning us because of Peyton McCollum. Read it several places.

I pay for the subscriptions because I like to read about the hawks. So, no, and I am not going to blatantly break the rules and lose access to a service that I have already paid for.

if your argument is “LINK OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN”, then it’s probably pretty weak. But again, everyone else is stupid, right??

Just you, man. Just you.

How do you think Tom would respond if he knew you were telling people about this exclusive information?

Wade, most of your opinions on these matters are based on hearsay and your cul-de-sac convos.

Forgive us for not just accepting what you say as fact.

I don’t doubt that he’s heard McCollum is going to play. I guess I’m just not that scarred to think, without ever seeing him play before, that he automatically must suck.

I haven't read the past few pages, and won't, but are we flipping out over Peyton McCollum here?
Here is what Gemini says about him:

Yes, Peyton McCollum possesses a Big Ten-worthy skill set, though his role is that of a valuable, system-oriented utility player rather than a star recruit. Because he is the head coach's son, his placement on a high-major roster initially drew natural questions about nepotism. However, college basketball analysts and coaches generally agree he earns his spot on merit. [1, 2]
His capability to compete at the Big Ten level is defined by specific high-major traits:
  • High-Level Defensive Capability: Head coach Ben McCollum has noted that Peyton consistently holds his own in practice against high-major athletes. He is physically strong and quick enough to fight through screens and handle the defensive demands of Big Ten guards. [1]
  • Elite Shooting Translation: Pure perimeter shooting is a skill that transfers to any level. His 40.5% conversion rate from three-point range in high school provides the exact floor-spacing Iowa requires. [1, 2]
  • The "Coach's Son" Factor: Having grown up immersed in his father's basketball system, McCollum has an exceptionally high basketball IQ. He minimizes mistakes, understands complex schemes instantly, and acts as an extension of the coaching staff on the floor. [1, 2]
The Reality of His Role:
While he is "worthy" of being on a Big Ten roster, he was not a heavily hyped, blue-chip recruit, and his high school recruitment was largely tracking toward mid-major programs like Drake before his father took the Iowa job. He is projected as a depth-chart piece who can steady the team in limited, calculated minutes rather than a high-volume scorer or explosive playmaker. [1, 2, 3]

I'm just skimming this thread, but Kakert seems to think McCollum will get some minutes. That doesn't really justify Wade's refusal to ever shut up about it.

"Peyton McCollum... very solid player who will see some minutes this year."

I wish he was at Drake or wherever, but I'm not going to spend a lot of time preemptively complaining.

I’m guessing he would say you are a faggot. Or that he appreciates the site traffic as people search for the article. One of those two.

just my guess though.

there have been roughly 1000x times as many posts where people are complaining about my opinion as posts where I have actually brought this up.

your complaints should instead be directed towards content such as “Peyton mccollum sets the tone defensively” or “Peyton can fill the ballhandling role left by Stirtz” or “pg will be handled by a combination of combs, Coleman, and McCollum”.

again, I hope he’s improved a bunch because they clearly plan to play him.

He'll play about as much as Matteoni played last year, which is very little

Tom wouldn't say I'm a faggot. He likes me. He would say you're retarded, because he has.

This is dumb though. You’re implying that McCollum could possibly be too blind to see if he’s not good enough.

I suppose it’s possible that we hired the only coach in the world with the ability to treat their kid objectively.

But, after quietly giving a kid with only D3 opportunities a big ten scholarship, I have my reservations.

He's the coach at Nebrantska, right?
Correct. He has a midget son who walked on, later got a scholarship. Fans were critical at first but the kid became a very solid player that other teams hated.

You’re approaching NLP territory on this.

Point where on the doll your HS coach hurt you.

This is a superb case study in how one lunatic can derail an entire discourse community.

We need that first game.

Lol. So you are reading the preseason coverage of iowa Basketball and your conclusion is that McCollum is not going to be in the rotation?
I’ve read damn near everything there is to read on preseason hoops coverage and concluding that McCollum and Matteoni will get to play in the noncon games when there is minimal legit pressure on them. I’d set their over/under for conference play minutes around 2 and take the under (though they may sneak in enough late good/bad games to hit the over).
