You absolutely spend that much if you can get a kid that good. One year and those funds would be available because he's in the NBA if all goes well.
I would assume whatever they scrounge up to pay him, should they get him, would be above and beyond their normal amount and wouldn't just be available in future years.

If they're getting 2-3 million extra from donors for one year for just this guy, that wouldn't automatically be there next year or the year after

If they keep winning and putting themselves in contention for these kinds of recruits, why on earth wouldn't the money continue to "be available"?

I’m coming around to the idea that The Less Big Pear might be good enough on offense to more than make up for his defensive shortcomings, at least against many opponents.

I’m coming around to the idea that The Less Big Pear might be good enough on offense to more than make up for his defensive shortcomings, at least against many opponents.
I'm starting to believe he's going to be an outstanding player for Iowa. He'll show improvement this year, get 12 minutes per or so, and then his senior year be a 15 and 8 type guy who can stretch the floor.

But I don't know shit really and I've had a few seltzers.
