Feels reasonable that by the end of the year, the Washington game will be one of the 3 easiest conference games on paper for Iowa.

Next 3 will be very tough to go 3-0 in, but I like their chances against the old divisional schools more than facing athletes from blueblood schools.

Washington has to win 3 of their next 4 just to make a bowl because they’re not beating Indiana or Oregon at the end of the year. Coming into this game their run defense was one of the best in the country in terms of yards per carry but they looked inept up front against Iowa.

Not a great Big Ten slate in 2 weeks. I assume Indiana-Michigan is Big Noon. Iowa-Minnesota and USC-Wisconsin are the other 2 decent games. So likely a CBS or NBC game for Iowa.

12-1: no home playoff game
11-1: home playoff game
11-2: home playoff game:
10-2: road playoff game

there's your flowchart.

Yeah they'd have to win out to host. Kinnick in a 1st round playoff game. Hooo-boy.
Most likely, yes, but people get way too over their ski's in declaring all this stuff this early. Every single Iowa beat reporter has been telling everyone that Iowa has almost no shot at 10-2 to get in because of their schedule and no wins against ranked teams.

Nobody has any clue what that schedule will look like by the time Black Friday rolls around. A few weeks ago everyone was sure that the Michigan / Ohio State / Washington stretch was a crazy gauntlet and the last 6 games of the year were a cakewalk. Now it looks like that isn't the case and the Minnesota / Wisconsin / Northwestern stretch might be tougher.

every year around this time it looks like there are going to be 17 teams going 10-2 or 11-1 and then inevitably there are a couple of upsets and things sort out enough that 10-2 will be enough

I had forgotten how bad we pummeled Minnesota last year.

We might just whip their ass again

How the first 19 minutes against Minnesota went last year:

Iowa 75 yard drive for a TD (7-0)
Minnesota punt
Iowa 34 yard FG (10-0)
Minnesota pick 6 (17-0)
Minnesota punt
Iowa 45 yard drive for a TD (24-0)
Iowa punt return TD (31-0)

Then we basically just sat on the ball the rest of the game

I think Minnesota actually sucks.

Got pistol whipped by Mississippi State, Taylor is great, their defense isn't. Washington actually sucks. They got a shitty version of Underwood in his first road start of the year or they lose that game. Then go on the road and get buttfucked by Purdue.

Now that the euphoria from that win at Washington is over and the bye week starts, welcome to 2 weeks of speculation if Hank Brown gets up to 100% health and who starts against Minnesota.

The easiest and most obvious answer is to stick with Hecklinski and use the convenient excuse that Hank Brown isn't going to be fully back to 100%, but can play if needed. It was the easy answer after KID'S DAY!!!! (@Fair and Balanced) as well, but we know how that all worked out.

99% of the time I would think it's inevitable that Kirk goes back to Hank Brown for a number of reasons, none of which make much logical sense but more because Kirk is a "you don't lose your job to injury" guy and loves Hank like he loves Petras on some level. This time I think they might actually do the smart thing and roll with Hecklinski.

If he turns out to be a one game fluke and you get off to a bad start against Minnesota, then just pull him and put Hank in and nobody will blame him at all. If he starts Hank and he looks like shit, now everyone is in a terribly uncomfortable position of having to admit they were wrong and fucked up and how deep down the rabbit hole they are willing to go before they admit it.

A couple things give me hope. His repeated references to Chuck Hartlieb. And his apparent respect for and deference to Tim Lester.

Vikings undefeated. Gophers off a pounding to Purdue. Thinking there could be a sleepy crowd.

Only an abject dipshit like Doug would suggest the “easiest and most convenient” strategy for Ferentz is to tell the media a player isn’t 100% healthy when in fact they are.

Is it just an attention deficit you deal with or what’s going on with your thinking?
