Ken O’Keefe was horrible in his second stint as QB coach at evaluating/recruiting QBs. Iowa ended up with complete dog shit at that position over and over. It almost felt like he was happy with whichever recruit would say yes first so his job was done.
My impression of Kirk in all of that (and still) is he thinks the QB position is no different or unique from any other position when it comes to development.
He seems to think that you can develop a QB to eventually be good like they are a linebacker or OL that finally matures and it starts to click for them in year 3 or 4 if they spend enough time in practice.
Evidence seems to indicate that isn't how it works. Talented QB's are talented enough from the start. They of course can and do improve, but you can either play or you can't.
Hank Brown strikes me as a player that has been shitty from the start, and even though he might get "better" and look great in practice, he can't help his poopy pants. He's played in multiple games as a starter and he sucked. Like REALLY fucking sucked.
Hecklinski is a bit more of a question mark. He's a year younger and has at least a sliver of hope he is a gamer and performs perhaps better when the lights come on. You can and should find that out. If it doesn't work, then go to Brown to make 1000% sure he's a pussy. If he confirms he is a pussy, then go to your stud freshman that Lester loves.
QB's are either good enough to play from the start or they aren't. Figure it out.
