I think the most excited I was about Iowa basketball outside of the mid 90s was when Alford was recruiting Beas Hamga, Emmanuel Negedu, Lewis Jackson, David Lightly, Evan Turner, Jake Kelley, Dairese Gary, some Malik guy from Pennsylvania etc. There was a random Canadian, Nathan Skinner in the class with Tony Freeman and Kurt Looby.

Then he missed the NIT and left before getting fired. Such a shitty coach.

Yes. Was down to Iowa and Michigan. Ended up with Michigan. They had that tiny pg Avery Queen. Don’t think Hart ever played there before transferring to Eastern Michigan. I believe Dean Oliver’s senior year Iowa lost to a bad Michigan team (Hart was on the team) at home to end the first half of the Big Ten season 6-2 and tied for first in the conference. Oliver missed the game tying shot at the buzzer. Iowa went 1-7 the last 8 games after Reckers injury.

I remember when Alford was recruiting Pierce and Chris Thomas at pg. He unfortunately landed the rapist. Thomas ended up as 1 of only 3 players in NCAA history to score 2000 points and record 800 assists. Point guard recruiting has been horrific since Pierce and Leslie.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but when Bill Bolster (who ended up running CNBC) and the KWWL crew acquired the rights to iowa games and launched the Iowa Television Network, the games got a fucking 90 share locally. Just insane.
