Defense is terrible. Michigan made 10 more 3’s than Iowa and had 10 fewer turnovers.

It’s 2018 and Iowa has a roster that is built on layups and 15 footers. This is why Iowa was good when they had Jok and Uthoff. They could shoot.

Results were typical but that felt worse and weirder than others.

bohannon was different tonight. Didn't look for his own shot, stood around a ton off the ball.
Cook seemed frustrated by not getting touches then no calls. Nunge was all sped up again. Pemsl was terrible. Baer was terrible. Moss and Dailey mostly bad. Zone had moments early but then awful and they stayed in it.

Would be cool if Fredrick was a smaller Duncan Robinson out of nowhere story.

Just not a good matchup for bohannon. He worked hard to get free, but it was clear that they didn’t want him getting open looks. They are one of the few teams with enough athletic guards to slow him down.

@douglasbader asked the last time a P5 defense ranked this low on KenPom. Iowa this year is currently 243rd in defensive efficiency. Washington State is actually worse this year at 253.

Last year Arizona State finished 257th while having the 55th best offense and went 15-18. This year they're 13th in offense and 98th on defense with a 19-6 record so there's some optimism.
LSU last year was 280th. Their coach got fired and they're better this year with the former VCU coach.

In '16, Rutgers was the worst at 236.
In '15, Washington State was 298. Next worst was Virginia Tech at 226 in Buzz Williams first year. They jumped to 64 the next year, then 156 (made the tournament) then 89 this year.
In '14, Boston College was 294.
2013 had Virginia Tech at 265 then DePaul at 244.

I still think this program is going to be damn good next year and going forward, but this team simply sucks so much on defense they can't overcome it. Their shooting is also poor from three and kills them on the road.

With that said, the next 4 games are pretty much the opposite of what the last 4 games were and they will actually be possibly favored in 3 of them. Maybe there is a positive end to the season coming, but either way Fran has a lot of work to do.

He needs to retain his core 4 players, dump the complete garbage on the second half of the roster and try to grab an impact juco or transfer in the spring. Need to bring in a coach to help with defense.
