College basketball is pretty simple. You either get a set of refs that are going to actually call the game or you get refs that will let pretty much anything and everything go.

The Seton Hall game is a great example of the former. Iowa goes on the road and plays a super rape physical team and they destroy them on their home court. Why? Because the refs dared to call the game as it should be called and Iowa shot 31 free throws.

This tourney it was clear from the first minute of the Clemson game that the refs assigned to this tourney had no interest in calling anything and were going to allow rape and look the other way. Iowa was tough enough to fight through it last night. Tonight they weren't.

Whatever, this is college basketball and it is the reason why the audience outside of 2 weekends in March has shrunk at an alarming rate. It's a terrible product to watch in a world of a thousand entertainment options.

They could fix it, but until they make the refs full time employees and have them centralized and monitored and graded night in and night out, you are subject to the luck of the assignment draw.

7-36 as a team from 3. Kris was 8-31 in Florida and played more like he did as a freshman or his rough games last year. Tony got some numbers but wasn’t right and was a little selfish tonight. Connor was bad both nights, Pat awful tonight. Sandfort just needs to hit some shots and calm down. Good stuff from Ulis and Bowen at least. Hopefully this is good for them.

They tried to run the offense through Rebraca way too much the last 2 days. Eventually Fran will get back to him being the 5th option on the floor where his main focus is rebounding.

The strength of the team is the guards, once they accept that and adjust their ball screen defense the team will be pretty damn good.

And that's where the real frustration with the officiating lies. The inconsistency from game to game(s).

One would expect to have to deal with "home cooking", but its the other way around in those two cases.

Ref team called the game the right way @ SH and yet the 6+ guys with the whistles allowed the 'all out brawl, anything goes' defense during this little 2-game tourney in a community college gym.
