I'm not sure Purdy is even the best QB in the state.

That D3 kid at Central can sling it.

Outside of the obvious, Brock Purdy is not even better than Iowa’s QB from 2016, let alone either of Iowa’s Heisman runner ups since 1980.
Aubrey Devine, Kenny Ploen, Randy Duncan, Wilburn Hollis, and we haven't even gotten to Chuck Long yet.

Freyler, the safety that kept crashing the line of scrimmage because Clemson can't throw more than five yards down field.

He's never going to be a first round pick
That's a thing I have increased notice with ISU's players- ISU has these highly specialized skill sets and subs situationall y. Freyler plays where Young palys (and got props) as a Freshman. It's a safety that crashes the line of scrimmage in the scheme. They rarely do anything impressive in coverage.

Another yuge example is McDonald who is staying in school to "improve against the run". Yesterday they full on subbed him in out in most clearly run situations. So he's not even playing full snaps is mostly there to rush the passer (which is more of the time in the pass happy b12). He's not getting developed to be an NFL style palyer. Complete opposite of Iowa where they ask you to do everything.

Kolar is another one as they have specialized him in splitting out at basically catching jump balls over smaller safeties. He doesn't block much and infrequently runs traditional TE routes. Its not going to translate for him well at the next level. Kind of like that TE from Mizzou a decade or so back( Chase something) who was a bust.

Stanley was 3-0 in bowls (same as Stanzi and each are one less than total ISU bowl wins ever). Purdy 1*-3

*- Covid year over a depleted and uninterested Oregon team that finished 3rd in their own conf in said Covid year which was especially weird in the Pac12

Purdy racked up stats because he stayed healthy and was above average, but I would guess his winning percentage was around .600 with too many anti-clutch moments to count. Wouldn’t crack the top 10 Iowa QBs. We would have hated him as our QB.
If you factored fumbles in to QBR, he’d be another average QB. But because Cyclone fans are stupid as fuck, they think he’s the greatest ever. Holy shit these people are dumb as fuck

I love how these fucking idiots think ISU was a major factor in this "huge" number as opposed to the game 1) featuring an actual blueblood who won a title two years ago, and 2) being a in a standalone primetime spot.
I love how nothing matters. Not conference championships, not nfl draft picks, not wins, not transfers, not recruiting classes. Nothing matters.

Ratings are up year-over-year, and generally good across the board. The Music City and Peach Bowls will both beat that number, and it'll get slaughtered by NYE and NYD games.

Also, the 2019 overall bowl average viewership was over 5M. It was a decent audience, but not special. It was also FUCKING CLEMSON.

But a lot of people got to see you shit your pants. Repeatedly. Cool.

The pre-Christmas Bowls are mostly just G5 schools and there weren’t any bowls on Sunday or Monday night so they’re bragging about ISU/Clemson beating out Texas Tech/Miss State and the second half of an Alamo Bowl blowout. So congrats?

I said this earlier but I am truly curious. How many times has a team’s preseason ranking matched their season ending win total (7)? That has to be a 1:5000 deal, right?
It has to happen pretty frequently for teams ranked 8-9-10, but I agree that 1-7 has to be pretty rare.

I admire the handiwork, but if you’re going to put in the effort is Jack Trice the stadium you choose?

The a Big Ten barely even starts bowl season until yesterday. There was one BT game before Wednesday, and even now, half are left. The SEC is similar. The biggest TV draws are all after them, but meaningless and incomplete victories abound.

The Brock Purdy/Nate Stanley comparison is entirely apt. Both players showed flashes of excellent QB play, threw for a ton of yards and also pissed away multiple games because they were scared children.

One finished 7-6 with an embarrassing bowl loss and was sent off as a hero. One finished 10-3 with an absolutely dominant bowl win and was sent off with a handshake and a personalized coaster set.

Yeah, but many were ready to toss one of them aside because of his statuesque QB play and terrible missed throws and move on to something different....lol

He tried to block Jestin Jacobs this year and got completely overpowered. It ended with Campbell celebrating in the end zone.
