Sure in a way. All of the best AD's leaving the conference aids in that, plus he's been there 20 years. He's had some of the worst. Gene Smith did most of that heavy lifting getting those programs somewhere that success could be achieved

It’s worth noting that ASU is likely able to afford this because of what they have done with their land around Tempe. They have actually pulled off what CyTown wishes it will be. The area around campus has dramatically changed over the last 10 years and continues to grow. They are in the process of building 3 new high rise buildings for housing. They built office space and a lot of retail and restaurants.

Of course, the difference seems to be people want to go to Tempe and there’s a population center to support the growth.

Conversely, U of A is in the middle of a legit financial crisis after years of mismanagement and selling off much of their land without developing it.
