While I HOPE they don't actually do that, because I don't like the idea of it. I probably would find the alternative worse. And it makes more sense to put the cost on students that more benefit from the athletics than on state taxpayers.

If you're an in state student, that would be about a 5% hike in tuition, that would basically be going straight into the pockets of Iowa State athletes. Not into general funds, building maintenance, or anything like that - to *fund the personal incomes of Cyclone players in only the sports covered by House.*

Good luck selling that to ISU's historical feeder population, much less to a BoR that's been obsessed with cost control for decades.

If the choice is really "keep FBS status" vs. "balance the athletics budget" I'd be very nervous as a Cyclone fan right now, because unless Pollard wins Powerball tonight FBS status will require fully one-quarter of ISU's athletics budget to be subsidized, starting next year and continuing into perpetuity. And there was substantial complaining from the Regents *this year* about ISU and UI having 6% institutional budget increases.

That's only the initial number. The figure will grow, likely significantly, over time. Four figures feels like a fairly significant Rubicon to cross for something that many students receive no benefit - entertainment or otherwise - from.

ISU will be specifically asking students to pay for the salary of their fellow students, just so they can play a sport. All while those same student-athletes are likely getting scholarships and paying less for the same education.

Where are you seeing that? According to this ISU was 13th in 23-24. In any event, Texas Tech, TCU and BYU have the resources to keep up. I think ASU winds up in the douche before long. Most of the others it has to be looking bleak.

So the answer is to leave the Big 12, become an Independent, and just schedule road games against G5 teams. Imagine all of the money saved!!!!
