Fran leaving Toussaint in for a lot more of this game was encouraging. Second half was solid with him in there. bohannon should be in there as the main guard with a late lead always, but he also needs to just do his thing and draw the foul.

bohannon is approaching Nunge level 3pt shooting. Still a small sample size and hopefully he can turn it around. But a shooter who cant shoot, or offer anything else on offense, and plays matador defence, and plays the pg position, is a really big problem.
is it a small sample size at this point? 9 games in and he's been shit for 8 of them

Side note, that foul they called on Toussaint before his missed FT's when we were up 5 sucked. Even if that's not a charge, that's a play on. He was in that spot with his hands up and Carr barreled into him.
Even better, how about that thrown elbow to his throat charge by Carr that was called a block on JoeT?

That fucking call would have gotten an auto Technical from the old red-faced Fran.

That quick three by Nunge before he got pulled when they were starting to pull away killed the momentum they had
Yeah, I was about to mention that along with talking about Nunge. Iowa up 8 and rolling. They score to make it 6 and he comes down and 7 seconds into the shot clock he chucks a three and then commits an idiotic foul.

He's fucking Jack Kreiner at the moment. The guy isn't even pretending to ease himself into the game and let it come to him. The second he gets in he is immediately looking to get shots up. This game it was checking in with 13 min to go in the first half.

Plays one short defensive possession and 7 seconds into his first offensive possession he is putting the ball on the floor from the three point line and driving wildly throwing the ball off the top of the backboard and committing a terrible charge.

Robbins hitting the 28 footer with the shot clock expiring while it was a 4 point game was a nice cherry on top, fuck.

Murray and nunge were dogshit today
I only remember one of Murray's turnovers when he was outmuscled in the post but he did have 4 rebounds, a steal and a couple points in 8 minutes. I can stand a few turnovers from him because he is so active with deflections on the other end. I'm with Hawkstrat and would like to see more Garza, Weiskamp, and Murray on the floor together.

someone needs to cut to the basket when Garza is getting double and triple teamed. They stand around the perimeter and allow 3 guys to guard 4.

One other thing - now’s the time to get any weaknesses exposed. This team is legitimately good, so any shit that gets exposed is something to work on and correct throughout the rest of the year (other than defense of course).

Last year isn’t really the comparison we want Floyd.
Sure, ordinarily you’d think a guy gets back to his career figures. But while Bohannons shot doesn’t seem noticeably off to me, isn’t the concern here that he simply isn’t the same player post injury?

Someone else start the game threads going forward by the way. I'm done doing it, these posts are so fucking stupid after losses it sucks the joy out of it.

What exactly are you arguing again? You spoke out of your ass that we had no interest in rebounding when we destroyed them. Then you changed it to "well other people in chat said!" and maybe we left a couple we shouldn't have. No shit. You're right, it would be cool to never give up an offensive board ever. They got a couple that hurt us like every basketball game ever. We still controlled the glass and even beyond Luka, did a good job there tonight.
I literally said to you: "Could be overstating the lack of interest in rebounding,"

So will pose the question, what are you trying to achieve here?

Sure. I'm just not sure I buy it in regards to his shot. It was the one thing he was able to do throughout most of his rehab. He's moving better than he was last year. He's a proven elite shooter. I don't know what's off right now but I don't think it's destined to stay this way because of his surgeries.

To call you out for saying something really dumb and then still trying to hedge when you continued to be wrong.

I completely agree, but I think his stats matching last year might just be a shitty coincidence. Him not being the same player post injury is a huge valid concern.

When I said: I "Could be overstating the lack of interest in rebounding," That's literally me not falling on a sword saying I am right and you're wrong. And acknowledging that I could have been speaking with hyperbole.

That's called a "hedge" now?

Merry Christmas.

I already said you were stupid and jinxed it for starting the season thread. You own it now.

No one wants to read us going back and forth for 20 fucking posts, Jesus. You said something dumb. I said you were dead wrong. You then said others in chat agreed at times and Luka had a bulk of it. Which, who cares, he plays for us too. I showed you that we still killed them without that.

55 boards to 38. 27 offensive boards to 11. We got 50% of our misses, they got 28%. That's not "could be overstating it" that's being dead fucking wrong and having no clue. Maybe you got texts from your friends again, I don't know. It was a national TV game. Rebounding wasn't one of the top 10 factors that cost us tonight. It helped us far more than it hurt us.

Until Joe missed those FT's, the only concern for most in the last minute was whether we'd cover the spread.

Last :40 they go 4-4 at the line, 2-2 from 3. We go 3-6 at the line, 0-1 from the floor.

I know it's HALO but it's possible to be angry and annoyed at the game without being a complete dumbfuck about the team going forward
True, but the bottom line is that the conference champs will probably be 15-5 at worst, probably 16-4. Giving up a game to a shitty Minnesota in game 2 team hurts bad and does not bode well.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is exactly the type of shit this team needs. Should come in handy when it’s actually important.

Wieskamp was a top 50 kid who has played to or above his ranking

Garza was a borderline top 100 kid who has become offensively elite.

The rest of the rotation had maybe 5 other high major offers COMBINED. Good coaching and development has got us to the point, but it’s silly to think we can avoid some WTF losses with the coaching and player talent on the roster.

Agree with this when it comes to winning the conference. Next 8 games before they get to their hard stretch will determine it. 7-1 seems like best case scenario but all are winnable. Have about 4 of those 60-70% should win games like tonight

This doesn't really make sense in regards to a game like tonight. Like if some team dominates them physically, sure. But there is nothing about a lack of athleticism or skill that makes blowing a 7 point lead in under a minute more understandable.

I don't see Iowa winning the BigTen, maybe they make it to the Sweet 16. I love Fran and what he has done for Iowa, he's just not a big time coach. Similar to Dr. Tom.

I get this mentality because life as an Iowa fan hasn't reached that level in so long. But there are far shittier coaches and far shittier teams that have made the elite 8 the past few years. This team absolutely can get that far.

I hope so. It's just Fran hasn't had us knocking on the door of the Big Ten Title, and then we break through with this team. He's a good coach but I don't think he will make the adjustments it will take to win a Big Ten title.

Another dagger (might have been mentioned) was Frederick making only 1-3 free throws after being fouled towards the end of the game. Could’ve been an 8 point lead.

it's a guard's game. when your backcourt depends on 3-stars with crucial flaws, you're going to have some games like this one.

the defense is bad, especially when you have two slew footed guards, Connor and JBo in together. More minutes for Murray and Touissaint. And with the way Minny was getting wide open looks for 3 the whole second half, why not foul Carr at the end? This is a sweet 16 team.
