My main beef with Kirk is he’s loyal to a fault. Obviously, to his son, Brian, but also to dudes like Eggshell Cade, Bacon, and a couple of linemen. We should be at least trying to portal over as many of them as possible with a new OC, but Kirk just doesn’t have it in him.

Likely someone currently in the NFL. No idea who.
Thought about this as well. With a January hire and NFL season winding down, Doug Nussmeier came to mind. Multiple yrs OC and QB coaching experience. Reasonably successful, plus a few yrs in Big10 with both Michigan schools. No idea why his name popped in my head. Pretty random, but it fits the January hire timeline. 🤷‍♂️

‘Decades behind’ was an obvious exaggeration, which I’m sure most understood.
But, great job derailing the thread into a stupid argument.

The overall point was correct, we should be using this time frame to improve the program. By hiring an OC and letting them evaluate talent and work the portal to fit their offensive needs.
Instead Brian gets to waste this valuable practice, and personnel decision part of the season.

Spencer Petras was throwing that stone. Number 1 in the country?
I’m on record for years bitching about this same stuff. It’s a fact though that they were ranked #2 in the country and if you call that a program that is DECADES!!! behind, then you are a certified tard. One decent OC hire and stuff gets really fun fast.

It’s gonna be at least 20 years until Iowa is relevant again!!!

They are not decades behind but until they get some semblance of offense they are way closer to Iowa St/Minnesota than they are to Michigan/Georgia.

20 years is just as retarded as stones throw from #1.

And this approach is one of the biggest reasons why we’rea pretty good team that sticks together through thick and thin and that even the top players need to be encouraged to leave.

You want all the good that comes with running off players and coaches and none of the bad.

Right. Everyone wants action in the portal but they've got multiple really talented guys deciding if they want to leave or stay. Iowa doesn't exactly run players off, which makes the players as loyal as Kirk. I'd rather have that than something anywhere close to what Deion is doing.

I’m fine keeping the good if we could hire and empower someone remotely capable of evaluating a quarterback, starting with not seeking out and playing the least mobile and physically fit options available

No. As being ranked number two I would definitely say they were mathematically much closer to being ranked #1 YOU FUCKING RETARDED MORON!

I’d like to know what went through Kirk’s mind watching Lamar Jackson single handedly elevate his team and make multiple big plays on Sunday night.

“Lamar, get down! Throw it away! Why is he looking downfield so much!?!”

Plus, this is all new territory. Our goal should be to make sure our program culture sustains through the head coaching change. There will always be kids and handlers who are simply chasing bags and attention. We may need one of these kids occasionally, but our current approach avoids many of these problems because we are not constantly dealing with high maintenance parents and kids.

we can get NIL to the point where kids can make a decent buck now and then been virtually guaranteed an NFL opportunity, even as a 3* kid. They develop a bit and then go into the league ready to play with no drama or off field issues.

I had a similar thought whilst watching the game last night. At one point, they mentioned talking to Pete C. about getting whipped by the 49ers. They mentioned that Carroll said something to the effect of "yeah, we're going to make changes", and I kept thinking of Kirk sitting at home going "what? During the season!!??!!"

You think Brian tells his wife everything?
I wonder if she even knows he got fired.

She will likely ask him "why are we moving to Fargo?" and he will say "Well honey, Dad's reassigning me to help an old pal out for a year or two. Then we will come back."

They actually have run off most of the QBs/WRs. They just need to find and develop them better. I am generally opposed to running off OL.

My Mendoza line for a returning guy who’s been in the program several years would be MAC All-Conference. If he’s better than that, encourage him to stay. If worse, trust that you can upgrade. Our QBs and a few linemen fall on the wrong side of that line, imo.
