It appears to be down to Chryst and Philbin.

Yep. It was to much to ask to go outside of the box on this one

Ol’ Chryst or Philbin might know a qb or two looking for a landing spot.

The only thing to be concerned about over Philbin is that he has never been a QB coach.
You may be unaware that we currently have a Gift from the Heavens with QB coaching experience on the current staff, and all indications are that he's going nowhere (in part, perhaps, because he can't at anything approaching the salary he now receives as a result of last year's raise).

Plus we have great, independent QB gurus to sell us on their prospect

It would have been nice to actually consider an outside candidate that had head coaching potential.

A Philbin hire wouldn't be nearly as exciting as it would have been ~5 years ago.
The only reason a Philbin hiring would be remotely exciting is because of the wonders he worked with the OL back in the early 2000's.

If Chryst can implement a running game that is 90% as effective as his Wisconsin teams, sign me the fuck up for that. Imagine how good the defenses would have been the last two seasons with an effective running game that can actually play complementary football.
Our offensive line has sucked I know, but another huge part of that is obviously zero passing threat. There's no world where the run game is 90% as effective as wisconsin unless there is *some* risk to the defense for putting 32 guys in the box.

If Lachey comes back, I actually think they have good enough pass catchers. They just need a QB that is capable of completing a forward pass and a competent OC.

Very mixed bag as the Cowboys OL coach dampers my enthusiasm. Was ultimately fired from that gig and replaced.

So is he a fallback hire or is he actually the guy Kirk wants?
