My beef isn't necessarily with the play calling (that's actually been decent) or entirely with the scheme but recruiting. Their approach to offensive recruiting, especially playmakers on the edge and speed to complement our TE's has been an unforgivable blind spot. Our offensive issues start there and have snowballed into the situation we're in now. Even Greg Davis was on record stating that a big upgrade at WR was needed to run his offense.
This is 100% wrong. Like every sentence builds upon the wrong and adds more wrong.

Alabama tried hiring Grubb as OC last offseason. He’s going to be a HC next year.

If it is a choice, would you rather have Grubb as HC with a forced Kirk retirement, or Kirk and Philbin (or Chryst)?
Of course I'd take Grubb. Kirk is going to retire in the near future anyway, and Grubb would be a good hire.

Wasn’t it confirmed that the big dick boosters made Beth fire Brian? Perhaps she would’ve done it on her own, but I believe her hand was forced.

I still can’t believe these same boosters didn’t force Brian out after last year. What the fuck did they think was going to happen giving Brian another year as OC?
The UI President and the Director of the Iowa BOR forced Beth's hand.

The mish mash of the offensive scheme and play calling is the biggest issue by far. Brian is truly retarded. Nothing he does makes sense. Nothing ran offensively compliments any other aspect of the offense. The fucking retard went into the gun and gave the keys to the fatass on our first drive that actually got us inside the 5 yard line.

That faggot Spencer could have sneaked 3 times for a TD.

It's seriously unreal how bad at his job Brian managed to be. Have fun being a position coach the rest of your life, Bri.

Grubb, and it is a no-brainer.

I would take Kirk Ferentz over many, but if someone like Grubb, Leipold, or a few others were available now, based on Kirk retiring, then you make the move.
Grubb this year, with a forced Kirk retirement at this point
Forcing Kirk out could get ugly, expensive and will piss off a large % of the fanbase. Goetz will need to be made permanent AD to do it, and it will make her a target — and I’m sure a lot of Iowa fans already won’t love a “lady AD.”

There will also be a lot of pressure on the replacement, who presumably would demand a longish, expensive contract.

All that on the table, I’d do it for Grubb.

The other issue with Grubb is that Alabama might be open shortly. He’s not picking iowa over bama.

I want to murder someone every time we go 5-wide with a running back next to the sideline and two tight ends.

Kurt is going to coach for what, like 2 more years. He's almost done anyways.

If Grubb wants to come, you have do it.

Correct. But Gary had to go first.

More wrong. Washington's recruiting has been fine but nothing crazy.

They have 3 NFL WR including a top 10 pick, a likely 1st round QB. Two of the WR were big time prospects, the other and Penix were transfers.

washington state has a similar percentage of African Americans as iowa, but the state more than twice as big. He has to heavily recruit out of state at either place.
Penix was a transfer and one of their WRs was a transfer. It may be a challenge but having a respected offensive mind and QB coach would help.

Grubb also did great things at Fresno State and put a QB in the NFL there.

What other top program are gonna have an HC opening at this point?
And those jobs would pick another top HC, not a coordinator.
Iowa would be one of the top jobs if it becomes available.

Two teams in two years, that three years ago were no where near the playoff conversation, are playing in the National Championship game. Fuck anyone that thinks that can’t happen at Iowa. Expect it to happen, no, but resign that it can’t so we should have a coach that completely ignores half the game, and is so quarterback blind they have the worst quarterbacks around. Iowa State is, and has been, better at every single skill position*for at least the last five years. Fuck every defender of this nonsense.

*rb this year is debatable

Iowa state manages to have a whole stable of decent WR every year and none of them are four and five star guys. We are just accustomed to not recruiting players like that.
To build on how quickly this stuff can turn around- for good or bad, think of how foreign it would feel to have guys like Brandon Smith and ISM at Iowa now, and those guys aren't particularly special.

Feels impossible to replicate Stanley type of production.

I just fucking want to see a good OC with Parker and Kirk for a couple of years. Why is Kirk doing this to us?
He’s gotten and done what he wants with near impunity for 25 yrs. Then, an outsider came along, pulled the rug out from under him and took out his son in the process.

It's Beth's job to get Kirk to want to make the needed changes. If we don't see a noticeable change in Kirk's attitude toward the offense between now and spring practice, that's on Beth.

Many (possibly the majority) years UNI has better wide receiver talent than Iowa. It's a choice to run that system and only recruit "your type" of guys.

It’s so fucking dysfunctional that I’m not sure anyone even knows what their type of guy is.

It’s always a good idea to clutter up the area of the field you want to go to and be predictable based on formation.

More-so speaking to guys who are team players and have that "lunchpail" (white) mentality. But they also don't have a physical or skillset type either.

Were Smith-Marsette and Brandon Smith of the lunch pail mold?

ISU can recruit skill position NFL caliber guys but Iowa can't? It is a choice.

No and they should continue to recruit guys like that. Copeland has said it takes a special kind of guy to play WR at Iowa. They can't be worried about stats and have to be ready to come to work, which means block.

It's fucking stupid. They need to change the scheme so it's not a forgone conclusion the WR gets 1 target a game. Get rid of the TE driven passing game. Use them, throw to them, they just shouldn't be the primary option in all of your fucking plays.

They can have both, they’ve chosen not to, probably because that dipshit Wadley and his fellow dipshits.
