I think Kyler Kasper could actually increase his production at Iowa. 2 catches all season

It's hard to blame the guy but Kirk would rather go 0-3 against ranked opponents and get murdered with HIS GUYS than win with the Wadleys of the world.

It's extremely transparent when your all- American linebacker says he doesn't want to play with douchebags.

That's a tough needle to thread. They've won a lot of games since 2015 but the fanbase is rightfully weary of the same old shit.

Iowa state manages to have a whole stable of decent WR every year and none of them are four and five star guys. We are just accustomed to not recruiting players like that.
LOL. If I got paid every time I’ve read a post from dumbfuck Iowa Fan acting as if the only options we have at WR are the 5-stars at Bama and Georgia….or the JUCO caliber guys we’ve started in recent years…I would be richer than @Mr. Hawk

It is among the dumbest things consistently posted on Iowa boards.

Yeah, we’re not getting those guys. But hundreds of shit programs across the country find a way to have halfway decent athletes at the position every year. Not having them at Iowa is a CHOICE

Every other team in the entire country deals with assholes, douche bags, prima-donnas, and insanely inflated egos.

The goal shouldn't be to eliminate them from the team but strike a good balance and hope you can help them to grow and mature with their time in the program. Kirk got burned so he'd rather forgo talent. They are also at the point where no kid with that attitude would want to play in this shitty scheme so it's a mutual agreement.

Getting “the right guys” is often an excuse for recruiting ineptitude.
I don’t think it’s “ineptitude.” It’s under and overvaluing the wrong things.

This is the same staff that was throwing fade routes to Max Fucking Cooper

The same staff that gave Jackson Ritter 3 starts because “those young guys just aren’t ready!”

Look at the punt returners we’ve had over the years.

Brian was hired as OC without any play calling experience. How often has that happened at a P5 program?

Kirk is going to hire another guy with very little play calling experience. Philbin was Harvard’s OC and O-line coach for the 97-98 season. It’s unclear whether or not he called the plays.

Within the current B10, Minnesota has co-OCs who never had the OC title before their current job. Hartline and Sherrone Moore’s first OC jobs were at their current schools.

as a bonus, James Frankin’s first OC job anywhere was at K-State.

It does not seem exceptionally unusual, which is not intended as a defense of Brian.

Good info. I wouldn’t have guessed it’s that common.

Maybe coaches with previous OC experience are more likely to give an unproven guy a shot at OC? If shit doesn’t work out with the inexperienced guy, the head coach can take over play calling.

PJ-OC at Northern Illinois

Ron Prince-OC at Virginia

Harbaugh-shitload of high level QB experience, and successful HC experience

I don’t think Kirk knows shit about play calling but he can’t be worse than Brian.

Like Brad, I’m surprised it was as common as it apparently is

Moving forward, with the advantages that the B10/SEC have….i would think it would become infinitely more common to see an OC with successful experience at a smaller program before being given the job in one of those conferences

Were any of the current co-OCs or brand new OCs silver spoon faggots?

Punting and Defense!
I wonder how that 52% stat in particular (17% turnovers, + 35% 3-or-4 & Outs) , compares with every other college team's offensive drives this season.

Is this something our sports stats guy @HawkLax6 can query the database and show a list of?

Incomprehensibly bad. Not 'complementary football.' Actively making things HARDER for Phil and the defense.

I trust there are non douchebag WRs out there who can catch the ball when it hits them in their GD fucking hands. White ones, even.
It’s impressive how bad the WR recruiting has been when you put it in context.

Wide receiver talent has never been better. It’s been the position attracting arguably the best athletes. This upcoming NFL draft could set a record for the number of receivers drafted in the first round.

And despite this bumper crop (which has really been a decade long trend), we’re trotting out worse WRs than we were 15 years ago.

That's what happens when you haven't recruited a single competent QB since Stanley 2016. Everything is rotting.

Hearing Chryst is the leader for the job. Having a hard time believing that it won't be Philbin but I hope I'm wrong.

Chryst has been the leader for some time, since Kirk went to see him. The uncertainty resides in whether he is offered another head job elsewhere

What job is open or would be open at this point? Unless the NFL suddenly poaches a bunch of mid-level coaches, I don't think Chryst is getting any top level job that might come open like Michigan or LSU.

Based on the alleged reasons he got fired at Wisconsin, I have a hard time believing he’d be a real candidate for a major college job . Shit he didn’t want to do it Wisconsin he still have to do it all the other schools.
