Leistekow said this morning he's learned in the past 24 hours it won't be Philbin.
LOL!!! This is gonna be very, very interesting.

Chryst and Philbin not interested. So, you have to count on a young guy willing to hitch his wagon to a coach who is likely to retire in the next 2 years.

The gift from heaven is moving up the ladder.

I swear he's working on getting Brian extended given he's still actually employed until June 30th. He's calling and begging donors to tell Beth that she can't do this to his oldest boy, his first born.

So why won't have one of Kirk's old union buds.

But we may get a Budmayr.

I think it’s more like his primary target turned him down. Why Chryst drug out this long and movement to backup options are fair questions.
Yes but they should have already known about Chryst's decision or indecision long ago. The primary candidate should have been ruled out or hired weeks, if not months ago.

He'll wait them out and re-hire Brian.

Everything is fine. The players just need to execute a little better.

The University of Iowa is a joke when it comes to hiring. The fact that a major P2 university still cannot make a decision on a full time AD after 9 months is a joke. The fact that the head coach can't hire an OC after 80 days is a joke. The fact that an interim AD had to force him to fire his worthless son and Kirk is still throwing a hissy fit over it is a joke.

Imagine the shit show it is going to be when Kirk and Fran leave or retire soon. Every single other school is able to hire a replacement within hours or days. Iowa is going to drag it out and lowball candidates and not have a leader that can take control of the process and make a decision.

So we can’t pay or won’t pay big money?
Supposedly, and I didn't actually believe this but it appears to now be a reality, but Iowa has $800k budgeted for an OC and is a big reason that they are struggling to find an OC.

That sounds crazy given Brian was making more, but with other raises they have to give to other staff members they are trying to go cheap on hiring an OC.

No matter what, they aren't out there on the market trying to offer market rates you need to offer to get a high level OC.

Need to cross those Ts and dot those I's. Also, need to get the opinion of all 237 members on the committee and then let it marinate for a bit.

800k?!?

Hell, Iowa State's OC makes 750k. We should be paying 1 million minimum.

How many 70 year old men that have a penchant for being super nostalgic about the past and have a steel trap of a mind down to the penny likely what every employee of his has ever made thinks that a person like that is out there offering $1.5m market rate for an OC? Especially after Mean Beth butchered his oldest son in public and his boy was only making $900k.

The more this goes on, the more I have zero doubt that Kirk is out there trying to hire an OC with a salary in the $800k range.

That appears to be the case. They can’t pay an OC more than Phil and don’t understand the current market for coordinators.

This isn’t difficult. Bump Phil to $2million and got get a legit OC.
But how would that make Brian feel?

Nick Saban retired less than 6 days ago. In that time, Alabama / Washington / Arizona have all lost and hired new head coaches along with nearly their entire staffs.

It's been 80 days since Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz was told he wouldn't be renewed and 15+ days since Iowa's bowl game. In that time Kirk hasn't been able to hire a OC and, according to the NIL guy, is still out there interviewing and hasn't come close to offering someone.

Lol.

I don't know if you guys know this, we won 10 games last year paying an OC $900k.

It's gonna be The Gift.

It took me a while to decipher your deep, philosophical, well-reasoned response, but I think I have it figured out: You're a MAGA cult nut job. AmIright? LOL
You're a fucking retard and your little story you typed up was awful. Be better. Or better yet, don't post anything.

its gonna end up being this dorky kid from Wisconsin. He's a "Godsend"
If KF tries to do that, Beth should fire the old man on the spot. Period. The Bud man already should have been fired, along with Barnett, that brilliant O-line coach.

Until we know otherwise, I'm still hoping for the guy from UNLV. Make him the highest paid OC in the country. The money is there. That hire would shock the college football world and make Iowa an immediate contender for the Big Ten title and CFP. Anything less, and KF needs to go. Period.

I’d take ISU’s OC and be thrilled at this point

It's to the point where we don't trust Kirk to make good decisions that are in the best interest of the program.

I think that says it all right there. Appreciate everything you've done Kirk, but I'm ready for you to ride off in the sunset. Do what you can to retain Phil and get yourself a young dynamic coach who understands today's game.

I thought so as well, but I actually no longer doubt it.

Say it out loud, what do you think is more likely.... Kirk is out there with a market rate $1.5m salary trying to get the best OC possible or that Kirk is out there trying to hire someone for roughly what Brian made trying to get the "best fit"?

I'm going to lean towards Kirk is not out there offering people $1.5m and instead is a lot closer to $900k.

Given our aging head coach & current predicament at the QB position, this is simply going to be a very difficult job to fill.

I am sure there are some restrictions in place. Iowa was never going to pay Tommy Rees or Ryan Grubb $2mm, but I sincerely doubt it is anything to the extent that you mentioned.

The P-C's Leistokow said point blank this morning that it "won't be Philbin or UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion." If that's correct, that's good and bad news. Iowa doesn't need a retread like Philbin, but Marion and his innovative, run-based "Go-Go" offense would be a perfect fit with Iowa's philosophy and personnel, so if KF doesn't get Marion, he'll have made another huge mistake.

Leistikow goes on to say he thinks KF will now go for someone from the NFL since Chryst was offered the job and turned it down. Maybe there's someone out there in those ranks who will work out, but Marion would be a fantastic choice, so passing on him is a mistake, no matter what.

Either way, the update from Brad NIL guy sucks and is pretty telling today. He obviously got an update from Iowa/Kirk and is out there trying to do damage control for them. He's selling the fact that not only is a OC hire not imminent, but Kirk is trudging around conducting interviews and no offers have been made.

That's not good.

Oh great, even better. He took his sweet time to offer Chryst and was turned down. Now he's back to square one. Awesome.
