All season the national story was about how the Iowa offense is so bad. I suppose maybe we shouldn't be that surprised that it appears nobody wants the job.

That's why probably couldn't agree on a number w/ Chryst. We were going to have to overpay to restore the reputation but it appears we were still thinking should be closer to market rates

It's very possible that anyone worth a damn doesn't want to walk into the current situation at Iowa. The coaches son was fired from the position against the father's wishes. It was the worst offense in college football for 3+ years and he refuses to acknowledge there was anything wrong with it. The coach also has strong opinions on what the future offense should be.

A million dollars and an opportunity to coach in one of the best conferences, along with the chance to right the ship and take a good team and possibly make them great would hopefully be enough, but maybe not.

Then again, just about anyone can improve upon what Iowa has. There has to be a young successful guy at a lower level who's willing to deal with the bullshit.

Supposedly one of the guys right in the mix for the job is the guy the Chicago Bears just fired who was also the pass game coordinator for the Packers. That should be fun if they pick him. Lol.

Hiring a guy who just got fired because he isn't good at developing QBs would be a very KF move.
It would be the one move he could make that is worse and more hated than Brian. If he hires him, watch out.

At this point, bring in the head coach of the highest scoring 4A team in the state and get it over with.
Tim Cramsay, OC for Memphis has a good track records and is making $400k. Surely someone like that would move for $800k. Or how about Jake Spavital at Cal, who is pretty good and has some real challenges there?

Spavital was hired at Baylor.

There's lots of OCs out there at a Mountain West or CUSA or Sun Belt school that surely would love a shot at a Big Ten job that will also double, if not triple their pay. Seriously, I could round up a list of 3 or 4 guys that broadly fit Kirk's philosophy and he could interview those and come to a decision.

Instead, he will drag this out into February. Not that it matters all that much at his point but this thing should have been wrapped up weeks ago. I get the feeling Kirk didn't even start seriously looking until well after the bowl game.

Raiders are interviewing Getsy this week for some reason. So we probably have to wait for them to not hire him....

I would be pumped about getting an OC from the NFL (position coaches too, but they have to have shown success passing the ball.)

I think it was more that Kirk thought it was a done deal with Chryst and his timeline was simply waiting for Texas to be done playing. And then that plan went to shit, and he didn't have Plan B.

I don't think it goes into February. Kirk has 2 interviews this week (supposedly tomorrow and Friday) and then a decision early next week finally to hold to his "sometime in January" timeline.

Iowa never has an offense that’s good enough to get people a head coaching job.

Getsy almost makes too much sense for Kirk - one of the best rushing offenses and one of the worst passing offenses in his time. Didn't know how to use their QB.

Certainly could be much worse, but looks like a guy who wants to stay in the NFL

Reaching out isn't the same as being willing to quit. Maybe he was worried about getting canned.
There were rumors not long ago he was getting fired. As meaningless as bowl games are, that win might have saved his job for another season

Kirk should be fired if Chip Kelly was an option and he didn’t go for him.
I'm guessing it's no longer on the table with UCLA retaining him, but if it is, pay him whatever the fuck he wants and be done with it.

UCLA has had a top 20 rushing offense the last four consecutive seasons, it's perfect for Kirk's "complimentary football".
