Yeah it’s not good enough. I’m beyond tired of watching shit offenses and trying to grind out wins because of defense and ST.
Maybe it will be better? There’s evidence he’s able to put together good offenses and bring new ideas. Could be interesting to see what they’re running in the spring even.

I don't know how much credence to give Cory Brada (hawkeye of the storm), but he claims Johns had an offer, and things fell apart dealing with pay.
Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that it’s not about winning games anymore for Kirk. What a petty human.

Kirk has been here forever. Fran is closing in on forever. They both have had great moments but sometimes turnover is good. Guys get complacent and comfortable. Obviously Kirk will be here next year but I sure wouldn't mind Fran moving on after this year. Especially seeing how succesful ISU and Wisconsin have been in hoops this year.

I just want some new blood. It's time. Bluder can stay tho.

It’s fucking hilarious how absolutely no one had high experience of this process but we somehow managed to get two very good candidates interested in the job….only to fuck them both up.

I’d be fine if Kirk, Fran, Bluder, and Brands were all replaced over the next couple years. It’s okay, iowa, we can have new coaches.

Someone needs to tell Kirk that as long as you are getting $7mm for coaching a sport that requires recruiting, perception fucking matters. You can’t just tell everyone to fuck off and still get good players.

Syracuse yards per play in 2013 (year before Lester took over in-season) ranked 104th, then 105 and 100 in his two years as OC.

WMU yards per play in 2016 (year before Lester took over as HC) ranked 14th, then 97, 54, 28, 6*, 25, 127 in his 6 seasons as HC.

Seems like he just kind of maintained the status quo at his prior jobs, with the bottom falling out his last year at WMU. My guess is Iowa’s offense next year sees little improvement other than the dead cat bounce into the 90s that comes with someone other than Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz running it.

The perception of malcontent men on social media? LOL. They just landed the most coveted offense player in the portal despite not even having an offensive coordinator.

yeah, the perception is strong and we recruit well.

perception is not only that our offense sucks, but our head coach does not care enough to address it
Iowa’s offense has been a laughingstock for like half a decade, I’ve been resigned that our head coach won’t address it for years. Iowa fans like you are last to the party on this one.

I just wanted a big name. Someone everyone could get excited about.
I thought with Iowa’s position in the new and more powerful Big10, we would get someone well known. I hope Lester is great. It’s just hard to be too excited at this point. Feels like a missed opportunity.

Who was a big name you would have been excited about?

Kirk only had to hire Kevin fucking Johns and 95% of people would have been satisfied and excited even with the hire. That was the very very low bar he had to clear and he found a way to drag the entire process right under that bar and hire a meat-headed looking mouth-breathing fuck that has been told to GTFO from pretty much every single job he has had.

Could have spent the next 8 months with everyone being fairly positive heading into 2024 and likely gotten a better leg up on recruiting, but nope, can't even manage to do that.

I love Iowa Football and Kirk Ferentz, but holy fucking shit he makes it really tough to enjoy the offensive side of the ball.

Oh, if anyone needs to feel truly excited and inspired about Iowa Football, just remember your next and first chance to see the new O.C. in action will be the spring practice where Cade McNamara likely won't be participating in a meaningful way and the new O.C. will be saddled with a big fat fucking slob that wouldn't even have started at Fordham of a QB to run his new offense.

Thanks Kirk!!!!!!!!

Western Michigan had a new AD in 2022. Probably a factor in the firing.

I want to know what happened. How did we go from Johns enjoying a delightful continental breakfast with Kirk on Friday morning, to rumors of it being a done deal and heading to HR…to that all falling apart in a day and a half over the weekend.
Did Johns ask for a billion dollars, and Kirk had to go with Lester?

Oh, I almost forgot, you will get to see Jon Budmayr out there chewing it up leading and coaching WIDE RECEIVERS on a Big Ten team. So, remember when you are hitting your 9-5 job this spring that Johnny Gift from the Heavens Budmayr will be raking in $500k per year to coach.... wait for it.... WIDE FUCKING RECEIVERS.

That HR snag that FFS alluded to was apparently a growing impasse over money with Johns imo leading to at least the 3rd place candidate if not lower in Lester

Just about anyone most people had heard of before.
I was even ready to be excited about Johns. I for sure thought we’d get someone who was at least an active OC.
I guess that’s what I’m asking. Who were these candidates that people heard of that weren’t gone after by Kirk? I don’t follow the coaching carousel outside of reading things here, as I understand it Kirk thought Chryst was a yes, he said no…should he have gotten an offer he couldn’t refuse? Were there others? I seriously have no idea what happened.

Is that a "Done Deal" like Johns?

At this rate, I predict we’re about three lash out posts away before the turning it back around to cover all sides.

Hiawatha was mocking this and I didn't believe it, but it was flat out said that Kirk had "$800k" or up to whatever Brian was making and was trying to stick to that without having to go to the administration to ask for additional budget.

If they were somehow having budget issues with Johns, than maybe he really is that cheap. I don't / can't believe that, but here we are.

The whole fucking thing is/was just weird as shit but so on brand as well. You have the public situation where Beth/Administration decides to publicly "fire" Brian and just about caused Kirk to cry and freak out publicly. Then they let him stick around when every other human being with any sort of pride would have just left and let another acting OC finish out the season.

As if that wasn't as weird and uncomfortable as possible, Brian stops wearing logo'd clothing and then decides to stick around all the way until the bowl game is over. Of course he can't score a single fucking point and Iowa offense is a national embarrassment in 2 high profile games.

Now you have Kakert saying that Kirk didn't really even start looking or trying until the bowl game was over. It's a fucking clown show of ineptitude when every single other program in the country would have thrown Brian the fuck out and just hired a replacement within a few weeks of the end of the regular season.

If anyone is expecting Cade McNamara to have any sort of meaningful impact on the season I would encourage you to stab yourself in the face now so it doesn’t feel as bad when the same shit happens this spring/fall that we all know is going to happen regardless.
My favorite part of Cade McNamara at Iowa so far is when he ran 4 yards in a fall practice and his hamstring or quad nearly exploded on him and he couldn't do anything but lightly walk after that, and even with rest the first time he had to truly scramble his entire knee actually exploded on him with no contact of any kind.

Two completely separate leg injuries that were unrelated to the actual knee surgery he had in the off-season after he committed to Iowa.

Good times.

The moral of the story is don't hire your incompetent kids to run shit they have no business in. The ripple effect of asinine decisions is the result.

with this I agree, and I generally think from top to bottom Iowa handles shit like this about as ass backwards as possible. But then again, I rather like that there have been two head coaches, with incredible success when compared to peer schools, in my lifetime. If Kirk was given under 1 million to make this hire, that’s not on him. It’s a department issue as well.
