Last I checked, January and February aren't in the spring. If they play in the spring, it would be March-May.

Last I checked, January and February aren't in the spring. If they play in the spring, it would be March-May.

So you're going to have student-athletes playing games a month after they've ended classes/graduated? Bowl games/playoffs in June/July? You loose two weekends in March due to spring break. Unless, you're going to play right through. It's not like those athletes would be allowed a standard 'spring break' trip anyway.

I think looking back, history will show that there really are on good options when dealing with something like this in the United States.

You can choose to let it burn through immediately and get out of it sooner, but that means lots and lots of death and healthcare being overwhelmed before you even know how to treat it.

You can lock everything down completely for a long time, but that only delays the spread and crushes your economy. You do keep old and sick people from dying.

You can do a hybrid model of initial lock down and then soft re-opening followed by some pull backs and stretch it out until you have a vaccine. Lots of people die, but not nearly as many. The economy will get hurt but not crushed. It is annoying as fuck, but here we are.

If you actually want to clamp down spread, you've got to do the more permanent changes like mask wearing, aggressive contract tracing & tracking, etc. like South Korea.

Keeping people away from each other for longer. That 1 person that spread it to 5 other people at the bar and then they spread it to 3 people each and so on. These could have been avoided, reducing the total cases and making it easier to manage. Also, the numbers would probably be lower and the people freaking out wouldn't have the ammo of huge case numbers.

Same thing with no link, but on CNN the narrative already around the what should be incredible news that there are multiple vaccines working and in phase 3 trials in record time and a modern scientific and human achievement is skepticism about the safety because the timeline was unprecedented.

You can't fucking win with people on any level. We have a global pandemic and government and science and technology has brought us to a time and place where we can have a viable, working vaccine in less than 12 months and people revert back to superstition.

Based on what we now know about mortality rate, 2M was never going to happen. Even at a 70% herd immunity threshold, you're talking about somewhere between 500k-1M.

The real question is what level is actually required for spread to fall off. If it actually is in the 20-30% instead of 60-70%, you're talking about something like 250k-500k deaths.
