Well when you only know “around 10 plays” it’s hard to accrue a sufficient “body of work”.
Im just posting what was said. The only game I really remember being pissed about it was the Michigan game that year.

McCann completed 2/3 of his passes and had a 146 QBR in 2001.

if we got that this year, we would win the natty AND the super bowl.

Firsr, I appreciate the inclusion of “lately”. Thank you for that.

2nd, I don’t want wholesale changes either. My best case scenario is that he completely revamps the offense into something serviceable and everything else is bau. However, my belief is that he will not do that. And if that is a case I would rather Kirk leave than continue in with this horrible, unwatchable product.
The reality is Kirk will not get fired from this job. He has a contract until 2030. Iowa is not ever going to pay him to go away. So our only hope is that he realizes Spencer is awful. Talking about Kirk getting fired is nonsensical. Maybe the middle ground is Brian leaves for a NFL position coach job next season.

Lol that still think banks was the better option in 2001.

McCann was huge for the program at the time, and he’s basically hated for it.
McCann was a good quarterback. Some fans wanted Brad Banks to play because he was more athletic but he wasn't ready to be a full time qb.

McCann was a perfectly adequate game manager and, as Wade notes, a fairly accurate passer

I would fucking kill for McCann right now.

Hell, I might kill for current 43 year old Kyle McCann right now.
I’d settle for Loog at QB at this point.

how about before we try ONE OF OUR THREE OTHER QBS before we start firing people.

Yeah, but has Banks ever been in a foursome with L Wade at a charity golf function?
Maybe not, but he’s been in a threesome at Wing Stop with Seneca Wallace and Dallas Clark.

Brian needs to go. He’s an absolute albatross around the program’s neck, and there are clearly better people out there for that job who would take it.

Only 2+ weeks into the season, and I'm already looking way more forward to the start of bball season in 1.5 months than I am to this weekend in what should have been a slam dunk 3.5+ TD win.

As well as what should have been a good 10+ win & easily the B10 West champs season.

Kirk would need to make some reasonable assurances about autonomy, but a top half Big Ten coordinator salary covers a lot of warts.

Sir, the Mad Bomber was a 2x Pro Bowl QB and a 2x AFL MVP. Please do not compare him to Spencer Petras.
I'm saying that in spite of his arm, Madden pulled the trigger because he couldn't cut it (Hells, George Blanda, who had been in the NFL since the 40s, had to salvage the 1970 season for the Raiders.). That's what's supposed to happen, even if you're a Domer and a fan fave like Lamonica. It isn't happening here. It isn't going to happen here. And I'm afraid we're watching Iowa miss the last train out of 70s-Reduxville.

The insistence on an exclusive and uncreative zone scheme in the run game is something that needs to be reevaluated, no matter how painful to Kirk and even if it means a new OL coach as well as new OC.

the miserable slog that has been our ground game in most recent seasons isn’t sustainable

He has suffered from bouts of insanely stubborn retardation many times throughout his career. This feels no different than any of those.
I guess I don’t recall “because I’m the head coach and I said so” ever being given as a reason at a presser. Nor an offense dead fucking last by a good margin after the first two weeks of the season.

Reevaluated is the wrong term here. This staff takes five years to evaluate just about anything. The zone scheme needs to replaced.

And the smallest OL in the country is an issue.

When coupled with the predictability with which we employ it, it is extremely easy for a modern defense with modern athletes to snuff out.

The way they run the zone scheme needs to be replaced. Many of the best college and NFL teams run zone as their base run play. Those teams are just better at dressing it up, using RPOs and meshing it into the pass game.
