Spencer Petras
Iowa Hawkeyes
One Liner:

Petras is a tough pocket passer, but he lacks the accuracy, ball placement, physical tools, and production to attract teams in the pre-draft process.
Evaluation:
Petras displays his toughness by connecting on throws as rushers crash down on him. He’s always willing to stand in the pocket and take hits if it means completing passes downfield. Mechanically, the California native displays a quick release and clean throwing motion and keeps his feet from stagnating in the pocket. Petras puts touch on deep shots and throws with good velocity on deep throws over the middle of the field. He’s shown flashes of throwing with anticipation and working through all of his progressions. However, Petras has a long list of negative traits and tendencies that will likely keep him from being drafted. He displays limited arm talent to unlock the deep third of the field and lacks the agility and speed to threaten defenses with his legs. The pocket passer doesn’t sense pressure well and holds the ball for too long instead of accepting defeat and living to play another down. Petras’ touch is inconsistent on short passes, and he sometimes throws fastballs at pass catchers only a few yards away. While he’s comfortable throwing on the run, Petras’ accuracy on the move wavers. His base, footwork, and lower body mechanics are inconsistent snap to snap. Petras doesn’t fit throws into tight windows, struggles with ball placement, and has a large number of wildly inaccurate passes that miss their marks completely. The third-year starter misses open pass catcher with high throws and doesn’t consistently give his targets chances to make plays. He’s sometimes too slow working through his reads and arrives late to the open receiver. Petras is guilty of making poor decisions, like throwing into double coverage or forcing passes when the right call is to throw the ball away and reset the offense.

How is that falling for something? It was more of a rhetortical question that I followed up with it seems rare that college coaches succeed in the pros. Ergo, I would be shocked if they hired another college coach

No idea who this guy is and if he's a worthwhile or not. But sums up how I feel....tuned out apathy.

I can’t really fault him for not calling out his assistants or players for being shitty. That would be pretty poor leadership to do it in that setting.

That said, when throwing out logic, reason, and/or my confirmation bias, I think he’s a coward.
Player, sure, but a coach is fair game. Besides, answering a question isn’t throwing someone under the bus.

Kirk doesn’t look like he’s having much fun. Good. Fuck him. His QB, whose NIL deal probably consists of Panchero’s coupons stands up there after every dismal game and answers every question and assumes responsibility for his shit play.

I believe we were told going into this off-season that they were going to change many, many things. Maybe I'm wrong and they didn't say that, but I think they did.

Now, since they seemingly changed nothing during the offseason, they have 2 weeks to change everything.

Fortunate timing for them to have 2 full weeks to implement a new offense.

They should feel very fortunate that all the pitchforks came out during a bye week. Now, Brian has a fair chance to show us what he's made of.

Iowa has had two head coaches in the last 147 years. Has a loyal fan base that has proven to be more patient than most (even in this shithole season). And oh yeah, is in the Douche with a machine in the back office that prints TV money.

When the time comes, there will be plenty of really fucking good choices.

The way the athletic department is approaching NIL makes the Iowa job a tough one going forward.

The I-Club refused to give the NIL a donor list to cold call. Evidently the Swarm guy wanted to advertise on the Iowa radio broadcast and was denied.

Garta works for Kurt.

I’ve alluded to this before….but Iowa’s NIL situation is far far more fucked up than most realize

That’s the least surprising thing ever. I’m shocked iowa isn’t handling this MASSIVE change well. I wonder if cryptkeeper Chuck will win an election this year.

Did you even read The Dude’s tweet, Donny? Won a game in the state of Iowa. That’s KSU, not Illinois. Though I agree both would be interested.

How does this affect your life?
iowa football is a nice distraction i look forward to every fall and having the worst athlete in D-1 football starting at quarterback makes it unenjoyable for me.

i'd like for his awfulness to be fully understood, appreciated and memorialized for posterity, as those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it.

You don't need to see the numbers, you just need eyes, to know how bad this offense is. But holy shit, some of the stats so far are astonishing.

They have attempted 17 screen passes, and completed 15 of them for a grand total of 19 yards.
