The nice thing about evaluating Brian after the season is that it ensures that next year's recruiting class will be completely devoid of offensive talent, just like this year.

Keagan Johnson (transfer)
Arland Bruce (transfer)
Brody Brecht (quits football)
Nico Ragaini (senior)

Diante Vines--I don't know anything about Diante Vines, other than he likely broke multiple bones on the catch he had.
Jacob Bostick--I assume he'll transfer.

That leaves Alec Wick and 5 or so other WRs with offers from Simpson.

Not giving a new OC a chance to recruit the existing players worth a shit (Keagan) or new recruits is pure retardation.

Brian will not be the OC next year. It is an impossibility. Move on, you dumbfuck.

As the dust settles, I am still not thinking doomsday for next year (barring a mass exodus of players).

The defense will be Top 20 once again, and there is some hope on the offense. The OL coach will be pushed out the door. The WR coach will move on for better opportunities. I don’t see any scenario where Brian is Iowa’s OC next season. He maybe demoted to OL coach, but I think that all hinges on him being cleared on the lawsuit.

A big positive: It may have finally dawned on KF in Week 7 that Spencer Petras is not their guy after throwing arguably one of the worst Pick6’s in the modern era of Iowa football. If Kirk is actually changing course on starting QBs (something he has been adamant on since 2020), it “could” lead to more introspection in the offseason when it comes to the offense. He’s 67 so it’s going to be tough finding a new OC but perhaps he can promise full autonomy. We have Kirk for another 3 years (minimum) so we can only hope this happens.

The offensive personnel is still pretty bleak from a skill position perspective. Kaleb Johnson is your only bright spot. Maybe with the right OC hire, they can keep Bruce and Keagan convinced to stay. They still need some JUCO or transfer WRs added. The OL could actually be pretty decent next year if Proctor shows up and Davidkov can play football. This allows Colby to move inside to his natural position, and it creates a lot more depth. Iowa is super young on the OL so there’s been a lot of growing pains this year. With another year of maturity, it’s not crazy to think Iowa could have a nice run game next season should those things happen.

From all sources Hawkeye, Iowa will try to land a QB in the portal so it can only go up from here. Here’s to 2023!

fwiw peace

The entire offense outside of Petras/Padilla, Ragaini and LaPorta are underclassman. While that could be a good thing, it’s also an indictment on their prior recruiting and retention.

I disagree. This is an upper echelon Big Ten program with huge money and enormous fan support. You have arguably one of the best game day atmospheres in America. We’re in the Top 5(?) in sending players to the NFL.

Iowa can do this. It’s a choice not to.
I agree with your first point 100%. And yet, we still have to be careful. Look at what some bad coaching choices has done to Nebby.

lol you dudes writing letters to the AD. Unless you are sending czechs with a lot of zeros on them, they don't care what you think.
C'mon. Surely Barta pays heed to Mikey.

Let me give everyone some hope.... remember Kirk at Big Ten Media day?

He was pretty honest that Brian was made the QB coach and was given the smallest raise of anyone for a reason. He was on trial this year, and he has failed miserably.

Iowa was NEVER and will never make coaching changes during the season, but I do think Brian will move on and there will be major changes in the offseason.
I'm with you, Douglas. Barta isn't firing anyone. Kirk isn't firing anyone mid-season. Kirk is also never going to publicly bag on his kid.

The offense is a wet fart, but so is the rest of the division. No matter what happens, this season is going to be disappointing but that doesn't mean we're not going to win more games. The defense is good enough to keep us in all of them the rest of the way.

I'm optimistic that the Petras era is over. I can't imagine they'll have him start again, and he's probably relieved it's over. Padilla should get a couple games to see if he can provide a spark, but if he isn't much better they should move on down the line to see what the other guys have.

Kirk will call in a favor in the off-season and Brian will move on. I doubt he wants to embarrass his dad any further, and he certainly knows by this point he's not cut out to be an OC.

Kirk doesn't act like a guy that's ready to hang it up yet, but the off season will tell us everything we need to know about whether he's really committed to change.

Sure hope you’re right about never say quit Brian being willing to move his family to take a 50%+ pay cut to be a position coach in a higher cost NFL city.

Same exact shit we all said at the end of last year.

I do think they’re finally done with Spencer. Going back to him without giving anyone else anything resembling a fair opportunity would be so ridiculous that even they can recognize it.

Lots of things they have done are so ridiculous that even they should’ve been able to recognize it, but they’ve done it anyway

Well, that was never happening after winning the Big Ten West and a 10 win season. Anyone who thought it actually was is a moron (including me).

The offense will be better the next five games with Padilla. We all saw last year that he is a step up from Petras. KF and Barta will use that improvement to justify giving Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz one more year to build on that.

I think Brian is a selfish fucker and will stay on under the guise of not quitting. A QB coach and/or passing game coordinator may be foisted upon him. Kirk will continue to claim he’s a “good coach”. Garta will shrug his shoulders in resignation without consequence.

Right, but as Kirk is so fond of pointing out, they did win 10 games last year. There's less of a mandate to change anything when that happens. This year has been a struggle all the way, the wins aren't coming, the offense is worse, and we've become a national punchline, especially Brian. So it is quite a bit different.

Being done with Petras is 100% more believable that Brian leaving.

If for no other reason than the boos the guy will be met with. Kinda hope to see it.

I think they probably want to ride with Spence again, but know they can’t without a fairer shake for at least one someone else.

From TOS

Need to be thankful for what you have. This OSU score used to be the standard before Fry and Ferentz

Ferentz has proved in the past he can figure it out. I have great confidence he will again.

That Cleveland writer wrote a hit piece on our coach that was pre planned. That pisses me off so much. we need to be defending our coach father than embracing that horse sh*t.

Any long standing Iowa fan who has contributed money/time/ energy to this program should know this.

You band wagon tavern ‘Hoks’ really piss me off with your ‘what have you done for me today’ puerile attitudes.

Grow up!

The idea of a run game and/or passing game coordinator helping out is silly. Part of the problem is the offense has no cohesion. Separating pass plays from run plays will only make the offense more dysfunctional.

One person of normal competence should be able to do both at once: the offensive coordinator. If you have two co-coordinators, you might as well have none.

There it is. “I am an old. Iowa was bad before fry and Kirk and will automatically be bad again forever if a change is made”.

If Padilla is the starter, it won't hurt that he won't be playing against the #2 team in the country on their turf. Finishing the season against five mediocrities might be just what he needs.

Brian can’t go anywhere until his name is cleared from the lawsuit which is why his lawyer asked for it to be dismissed.

Sounds like Brian is considered by the industry to be toxic. So glad we’re paying him seven figures to run the program into the ground.

Here can go away from the Iowa Hawkeyes. The lawsuit doesn’t stop that. It’s not our problem whether he can get a new job and shouldn’t be a consideration and wouldn’t be a consideration if his dad wasn’t the head coach.
