When Dolph retires - we should look at Josh Lewin. He’s really good on UCLA radio

The offense has only been “successful” for like 3 of those years
Exactly.

Kirk is NOT an OL guru. He has lived off 2002 for 20 fucking years.

There have been individual stars and about 3 or 4 years of good line play. Otherwise it’s been mediocre. We haven’t been able to run the ball better than middle of the conference for most of his tenure. The offense has been shit for most of his tenure (worse under BF).

He’s made innumerable personnel errors across the board and has failed to adapt to the changes in the sport.

Credit where credit is due - he hired Doyle (and obviously gave him carte blanche with total control which backfired 2-3 times leading to national embarrassment), Norm and Phil. He gets credit for that, but his meddling in the offense has cost us about 30 losses over the last 24 years - far more than the upset wins he got. It’s been an overly positive run, but you have to move on and that should be getting pretty damn obvious by now if you have an AD with any vision or common sense.

Then again, our AD has allowed KF to amass a $42 million buyout that doesn’t expire until 2030. Where the fuck was he going to go to earn that as a buyout?

Kirk is being dumb. He seems especially blinded and stubborn where his son is concerned.

but you’re going overboard here. Let’s not get too stupid. The ferentzs are doing that enough for all of us

Which metric or statement, specifically, is wrong?

Kirk isn’t an Oline guru because we think it, he’s an oline guru because the profession recognizes it and consults him.

I have no idea how assistant coach contracts work, but I’ve never heard any talk of an assistant coach “buyout.” Fire Kirk’s son, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz, and cross your fingers that Brian’s dad, Kirk Ferentz, gets pissed enough to quit.

Ah, ok if I’m wrong I’m wrong. Delete that first comment, maybe I got out over my skis.

Now tell me what’s wrong.

-individual stars
-several good OLs
-many middle of the BIG OLs
-4 or 5 years in the top 6 in BIG running the ball

I think they usually get 1-2 years at a time. Even if there is a buyout, it wouldn't be big enough to be an issue.

I think you’re underestimating the general talent of players that are coming to Iowa. Even for offensive linemen I think Iowa City is a tough sell. The two best backs Iowa has had this decade, both with 1,000 yard seasons at Iowa, both with nfl hopes and dreams, and neither play in the NFL. That’s the BEST iowa has had running the ball. The offensive line has made a number of bad backs look good over Kirk’s career.

Fair enough, however my counterpoint would be

1) look at the schemes across the country that have FAR less talent, yet producing far more

2) isn’t that the responsibility of the coach to address, adapt, adjust?

Not an online guru
3-4 years of good ol play
Insinuating that basically what he has done well is hire Phil, norm and Doyle and let them make him look good
Even the buyout - he’s the dean od college football. I believe he got it after our winningest 5 years in program history and at a time when we were getting severely negatively recruited based on retirement speculations. He’s like the 4th or 5th highest paid coach in the big ten is all. I think at that time you either give him a big raise or extend him and they chose the latter. People would have bitched about either.

I think the OL has been disappointing since they changed rules and kirk hasn’t changed his strategy. I think it’s time he needs to go, or at a minimum hire an OC and give him full control and hopefully retire on top. I have no hope that it will actually happen

It hurts me to watch Iowa’s offense knowing they could absolutely choose differently and get better results.

Kirk heard change and good in the same sentence, and his eyes went crossed.
The stupid thing is that we adapt and evolve on defense. Phil has added the Cash and played mainly nickel. Blitzes creatively and more often than previously. Our special teams has also evolved a ton. Just nothing on offense.

Brian added the Wildcat. Approximately five years after the rest of CFB stopped using it.

It’s unreasonable to expect little ol Iowa to have a top 25 offense more often than not. I get that. We’re a developmental program and not ever going to get a steady influx of cream of the crop skill players ready to plug and play.

It is very disappointing that we can’t be consistently in the 50-60th percentile for offense especially considering Kirk has put up some overall successful strings of 8+ win seasons. This program is only going to get harder to recruit to. Could be some dark ages ahead without substantial changes made.

Barta may be the most incompetent AD in this history of the world. He shoulda been canned after the lesbian coach debacle. Managers at Taco Johns know enough to document disciplinary action on subordinates.

I disagree. This is an upper echelon Big Ten program with huge money and enormous fan support. You have arguably one of the best game day atmospheres in America. We’re in the Top 5(?) in sending players to the NFL.

Iowa can do this. It’s a choice not to.

Prediction: the OL coach will "move on" after the season which will allow Brian to claim that the scheme works and we should see an improvement with different/better OL play. Then we'll continue to see that same shit for a few more years.

I honestly actually kinda feel horrible for saying it - considering the overall record in the last 24 years - but the longer KF is Iowa's HC, the [offensive unit] downward spiral will continue.

What it will take to change the offense's fortunes around is something he won't ever do, let alone consider. And that being removing his son as OC and bringing in someone who runs an offense that isn't decades out of date, and KF himself letting said new OC do his thing with very little interference.

"A good defense is the best offense" is not an effectively sustainable winning strategy in today's college landscape, Kirk!!

I actually disagree with most of this. Iowa ABSOLUTELY can play and win running an old style, balanced, under center, slow, grinding, offense. They can’t do so with a bad offensive coordinator and a terrible quarterback. That’s impossible, but the rock fight style will win you A LOT of games, most teams are fucking terrible at rock fights, forcing them into one is a good thing for wins.

the buyout is irrelevant. We are never paying it.

I'm kind of giddy Kirk and Kirk’s son, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz will have to watch Charlie Jones do his thing when they watch film to prepare for Purdue. Exactly what they deserve.
Imagine being Phil Parker and having to focus your defensive gameplan around stopping Charlie Jones. The same Charlie Jones that was on your team less than a year ago, but for some reason other coaches decided they didn't care to use him.

Now, you have to figure out how to stop him. One of the best WRs in the country.

Phil Parker, Chris Klieman, Mark Stoops are all great options.

Instead, pathetic cuck Gary Garta will stand by for a few years as Kurt holds the Iowa program hostage and burns it to the ground.

It’s all fun and games (it’s not) until we have defensive studs transferring because they want to be on a team that has an actual fucking offense. If that happens, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz is going to need to move back to New England.

We had our chance back during the Prairie Ridge (?) days to end this cancer prior to metastasis. Should have listened to you 20 years ago.
With all due respect, you have now lost your fucking mind. Ridiculous.

You think Ferentz should have been out after 2005 and now is a cancer?

Dude, you're worse than Shawnee at this point and you should know better than this.
