lol. You don’t think Kirk has a number of reasons for thinking that OC continuity would outweigh the upside of making a change?

you seem to think I am the one making the decision here.
How would the answer to that question have absolutely anything to do whatsoever with the opinion of a person who thinks that Iowa should do something differently than they're doing?

You said this.

That sure sounds like you saying that you would have a hard time justifying a change in OC.
again, I am not the one making the choice. I thought it was well known that I am not Kirk Ferentz, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz’ father.

but if I were in Kirk’s position, given how he has run the program for 20+ years and how he values continuity, it would be a difficult choice.

hopefully that additional detail clears up any ongoing issues of you being fucking stupid.

Kirk has gotten rid of other - objectively less egregious- underperformers on his staff over the years

If there was ever a circumstance where you could get Kirk Ferentz to admit the truth, what do you think is the more likely reason for Brian's tenure:

1) His promotion from within the program?

2) His emission from within Kirk's balls?

1. I have said repeatedly that we would still be dealing with this exact issue if our OC was Tom Manning.

What’s really going on here is Wade is positioning himself to defend Gary’s utter and complete off-season inaction, specifically relative to his direct report, Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz.

I am sorry that you feel like Kirk would be firing any other offense coordinator that wasn’t related to him.

We all say some pretty stupid shit from time-to-time. Maybe it's the hubris, the alcohol, or the pent up frustration from not having sex for months because you decided to have a baby at forty-something years of age.

Regardless of the reasoning, only @L. Wade Childress continually says the most stupid shit across all topics all the time. It's almost like he's on a campaign to prove to the world he's the dumbest person alive.

again, it remains to be seen whether or not Kirk makes an OC change.

the fact that Kirk is the father of Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz has about as much impact on the situation as his contract buyout.

I just, I mean I want to, but...it's just not worth it.

The decision should be taken out of Kirk’s hands, as it would be at any institution without a milquetoast pushover AD, even where the failing coordinator in question doesn’t report directly to said AD.

of course it would, which is likely why they are worse at football than us.

some of “them” are worse than us, some of “them” definitely aren’t, but none of them are worse than us because they don’t retain objectively horrible coaches like Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz

I'm on the record as loving Kirk Ferentz, but the guy wins 8 games a year. With this stuff, or the stuff about building loyalty or program culture or whatever, let's not pretend we're talking about some unimpeachable levels of success where he gets to just say "scoreboard".

I went to Iowa in '96, so I saw the end of Hayden and the immediate transitional years. I have a deep respect for Kirk and what he's done for the program. However, I feel like the foundation is now set. It's time for the next guy to come in and take Iowa to the next tier.

That guy is not Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz.

That’s a good level of success for Iowa, but it has jack squat to do with retaining bad coaches who’ve proven themselves as such over an extended period of time. That can’t be regarded as a healthy aspect of any institution’s culture. It’s the exact opposite.

Sure, and I'm not saying otherwise. I'm actually not a "demand better" kind of person, and if Iowa is an 8ish win program I'm mostly fine with that.

I'm just saying those 8 wins don't make you Nick Saban.

They do not. And we aren’t taking about an otherwise effective coach who’s just experiencing bad/unlucky year.

The “win or lose, we still booze” era.

Good times.

lol. No one has said this. But Kirk has his approach, and while it drives us crazy at times, it also as us consistently performing at higher levels than nearly all of our peer institutions.

If Brian’s current resume had coincided with a run of above average seasons, it would be different. But the current arrangement has coincided with some of the best years in the history of the program over the past several years, so any leader is going to think hard about any program-changing decisions, particularly if they are potentially polarizing.

As yourself this- If firing Brian means that Kirk instead quits, are you ok with that? If so, thats fine, but it’s a bigger risk than simply replacing an OC.

Replacing the worst OC in the country carries no risk

You said "No one has said this" then proceeded to essentially say it.

I don’t claim to have the answer. But I do know that building a successful team involves a lot more than firing people who are struggling, and I am guessing that Gary agrees based on his history.
We all should have stopped there.

This is just another weird contrarian, quasi-troll LWade likes to do.

It's like he's bored along with being completely retarded

Not sure if you knew this, but they won 10 games last year and have an off chance at nine this year. Given how resistant Ferentz is to change generally, why do you think he will change after that?

And Iowa isn’t Alabama. And what does Nick Saban have to do with this?

If Kirk is willing to quit over keeping his son and near worst in the country at best offensive coordinator, then he’s less of a man than I thought and I’d be ok to see him go. I think that’s unlikely. His incentives not to do so are strong.

Petras' little pirouette then throwing an INT against Nebrantska in 2020 should have been it for him and scoring 3 offensive points against SDSU should have been it for Brian. I am not particularly interested in any other reasons, rationale, logic, assumptions, conjectures etc as to why they still exist within the confines of the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. They should have been gone long ago but hopefully they both are after this season.
