What NFL team would want Brian after the last couple of seasons? A team hiring him would be a favor to Kirk, but I don't know if he has that kind of pull. Bringing on Brian at this point is a big favor to ask of anyone.

The Texans hired Lovie Smith as their head coach right after he went 17-39 as a college head coach.

No shit. We are talking a position coach for Brian. He's got a great track record. He will get a pick of jobs as a position coach.

I think he lines up some options in December, coaches the bowl game at the end of the month, announces his resignation in early January to seek an unspecified NFL opportunity, and officially lands somewhere before the Super Bowl. His replacement will be announced within roughly the same time frame.

Not sure who this guys is, but its a pretty good summary of the current situation. Would like to believe Kirk/Barta have it in them but it doesn't appear honest introspection is a strong suit right now.

However, the Iowa football program must also recognize the precarious nature of its current situation. Iowa’s offense needs the kind of fixing only a cleansing fire can provide, which may require Kirk to part ways with his son/offensive coordinator Kirk’s son, Brian Ferentz, rethink the fundamentals of his offense, and embrace the trappings of modern recruitment and roster-building to fast track the rebuilding process. Iowa has a favorable schedule next season and should have another championship-caliber defense in tow. Given the massive uncertainty surrounding the next few years, it would be criminal for the coaching staff not to do everything it can to assemble an offense good enough to make one final push for a divisional title. For all his perceived stubbornness, Kirk Ferentz has also proven capable of altering his approach when the situation calls for it, such as embracing “New Kirk” and abandoning some of his more conservative coaching tendencies, adopting the 4-2-5 base defense, and making much-needed cultural changes in the wake of conversations surrounding racial bias. If Iowa wants to win the West next season and set the program up for another bout of sustained success, its leadership must prove that it is willing to continue evolving, even if doing so means stepping outside their comfort zone.

Kirk is down three scores in the 4th quarter of an extremely important game yet shows zero sense of urgency.

I don’t think Kirk gives two fucks about acting with urgency when it comes to replacing his son.
Used one of his timeouts on defense to get an explanation of a call he didn’t like.

Although with the offense he has assembled he could have had 20 timeouts and 6 downs per series and still not overcome the 24 point deficit.

I forgot there was a "New Kirk" for a hot second. LOL

that’s a long time to keep potential candidates, portal targets and recruits waiting. those with other attractive options will likely take them

There will be transfer portal competence available in January, which is about as good as Iowa could reasonably hope to get anyway.

Chryst or Shaw would be fine but aren’t happening.

I’d love to see them to grab someone like Coastal Carolina’s OC or someone from the Niners’ or Michigan’s offensive staff. Maybe take a run at K-State’s (although he’s an alum).

I fear something considerably worse than any of that is in store for us without a ton of time to spare before spring practice.

No one is getting fired. And I believe from past experience, no one is leaving until after signing day

Also sounds like McNamara transfer might actually be done or as close to as done as it can ethically be at this time.

NIL has been hinting at them having a QB, but refusing to say the name as they weren't in the portal yet.

What’s the sales pitch between now and when the new coordinator is announced?

McNamara will help some, if he’s officially in the fold.

He was only sacked 11 times last season.
I hope he thrives under constant pressure from just 3 & 4 man fronts.

It’s happening. It’s basically a done deal.

There’s no pitch. It’s a check, a winning program with a good schedule to get him to the title game next year and a good bowl. A program that puts almost every starting QB into the NFL (at least on a practice squad.)
