He probably would be good at it.
Precedent exists for shitty former Iowa QBs becoming pretty good coaches.

This guy, for instance:

Coaches this guy:

No guarantee, of course, but it's quite plausible that Petras can coach better than he can play.

He was with the Vikings when they built. Running the business side of the Bears, in this moment, might be a good application of his skills.
By all accounts in Minnesota hes decent and likeable- but it is funny that he's credited for being around as they built a stadium with essentially a blank check funded by public monies. Kinda like getting credit for being in charge for Big Ten/ SEC TV contract monies essentially being thrown around.
It will probably work out.

Spence will make at least two starts next year.

By the end of Spring practice we’ll start hearing how valuable Spencer has been to CM and that he will stick around for the season to help. CM gets dinged in game five and here comes Spencer to save the day!

It’s going to happen.

The next preposterous thing people will be saying is that James Vandenberg was better than Brad Banks

To be fair, getting a “blank check” of public money is the ultimate success for someone in that position.

I have no idea how much of a role he did or didn’t play with making that happen, but doesn’t diminish his resume, it enhances it.

The blank check was from the Wilfs- they were the ones playing hardball with regard to the public financing by pitting 2 sites against each other and backing it with their retail development experience in New York. It wasn't Karen Warren.

I was kinda being a rascal with some of my comments, especially the skol chant stuff, and by all accounts he seems to be a good well liked guy and it seems he was trying to model the Big Ten media negotiations after a more NFL model.

I agree with Newsy that he's probably better equipped to be an NFL guy, from what I have read. Hope he works out for them if he gets the job, I don't really give a shit, but its HaLo and we don't play that way.

He was the COO of an NFL team while is built a world class stadium. That’s pretty useful experience for a team trying to build a stadium, especially one that has never once, in its entire existence, owned a building.

The unpredictable COVID mess aside (which was likely as much the dipshit university presidents, as it was him), he came in to do one thing, and he nailed it. His NFL approach to TV contracts was a stroke of genius, and will be more so as these contracts continue and ESPN continues to fade.

Is that a sure thing at this point or is staying in Chicago still on the table?

If they’re not leaving they’re really committed to this game of chicken.
Nobody knows what is happening behind closed doors, but they aren’t even engaging the city right now, and at least publicly laughed off the table that goofy proposal to build a roof over the existing stadium.

The list of things it would take to stay is pretty staggering:

*a new building
*with a roof
*that they control
*with (magically improved access)
*no longer owned or controlled by the “director of slides” (bears term for parks director)
*with amenities the city doesn’t want them to have (e.g., a sportsbook).
